Current status

So it's been a while since the last release again, and I just wanted to let everybody know that the delay is mostly coming from the new opening and ending, which due to busyness and general pain-in-the-ass factors, has taken a long time to time and start typesetting. But I hope it doesn't take too much longer. In addition I've been spending some time on opening 1 and ending 1, retranslating those and editing the first few episodes. The opening also underwent a typesetting revamp. The plan is to re-release 1-10 at some point in less shameful quality, so you can look forward to that as well.

Re: Current status

Thanks for the update. I know K-F prides itself on quality, and I'm sure the wait (which usually isn't that long anyway) isn't anything new to K-F longtime K-F fans.

Also, really cool to hear about going back to old episodes! Coincidentally I was just going through the old episodes again just for kicks, and it was really interesting to compare the K-F then and now. I don't think you should be ashamed--it was fun to see how K-F evolved over the years.

On that topic, though, I did notice that some episodes were of less quality than others; of course, I'm referring not to the subs but the raw itself. I'm not sure if there are better raws available now, but some episodes just did not look good. The first few widescreen episodes, for example.

Our older stuff did not have the same attention to quality in terms of encoding. As for the widescreen episodes, those were TV raws since they didn't have Widescreen DVDs for those, and they weren't so good.

Well the opening and ending had crappy translations, plus mistakes in the karaoke in terms of spacing and even typos. Plus it looked lame on the opening. The encodes were also of poor quality, and the episodes' translations can use some improvement. Compare the two once we release one smile

I see. In any case, it's great that you're going back to the old episodes and giving them a fresh coat.

Reminds me of how old Luffy's "Gomu Gomu" font is. Always fun to see how you guys spice up those attacks!

I also remember that one episode that had a short explanation in the beginning regarding the use of "nakama" and keeping the Japanese spellings for attacks. Definitely a memorable K-F moment that continues to shape its subs today.

hi guys, long time watcher, first time poster.  Just wanted to say, thanks for the update, and it is incredible that you are getting out such quality episodes at such high speeds.  It is also fantastic that you are RERELEASING the first ten because you wanted to keep quality high.  I just wanted to say thanks for all the hard work, because it is really appreciated

Quality over Quantity is better in my book.

Having to wait makes the viewing experience all the more awesome. It's like a good wine. Yes you can drink it now but if you let it age...perfection!

Re: Current status

*GLOMP* Thanks for the update!! I'd actually taken the time to go back and watch the first 2 seasons - I was admiring how far you've come in the translations, but the ep. that JesusFreak referenced where you guys started leaving "nakama" untranslated... that little blurb is enough to make me cry, because it's linked to an episode, to an arc, where the work nakama really, REALLY started to mean something to the Luffy Pirates as well. *SNIFF!* Please don't change that!!

Can't wait for the new openings and the new season. I've remained faithful to K-F all these years because you guys deliver the BEST subs of my fav show, hands down!

Re: Current status

Right now we only plan on doing 1-10 over again, but I guess you never know. The "nakama" thing probably wouldn't make sense the second time around though, since we'd be keeping it in where appropriate from the start.

Re: Current status

would you guys consider re doing episodes to fix translations that were later found to be wrong?
i.e. Merman -> fishman, BonClay -> Bon Kurei
Cuz now that i know about them rewatching those episodes are kinda weird
