How to use IRC

Note: This guide is for Windows only.  Most of the general information covered will still apply on Mac/nix clients, but the client-specific information will definitely be drastically different.

Note: The first window you see will be one asking you to register.  IRC is entirely free, and the program will never be locked, even after the trial has expired.  If you want to remove the registration window for good, select Help->Register from the menu bar, enter any name and registration code you want, and click the [Register] button.

Getting Started
This is easy, I promise.

This guide is for my own special version of Sysreset, which has been configured with several options to take a little of the edge off the initial setup of mIRC.

Click here to download. (Mirror 1)

Just unzip this file to any directory (for example, C:\irc\) using a tool like WinZip.

The only thing you have to set up is choosing your IRC name (called your nick):

http://xdcc.discoveryhosting.nl/mirc-settings.jpg

Pick a name that's not likely to be taken.  "Naruto" would be a bad choice.  If your primary Nickname name is taken when you try to connect, it will try to use the Alternative.

That's all for setup.  Click [Connect To Server].

When it successfully connects, you will get a channel window which opens to our favorite channel, #Kaizoku-Fansubs:

http://xdcc.discoveryhosting.nl/mirc-channel.jpg

When you first enter the channel you will see:

(1) The topic - This is where we put critical information.  When there is going to be a release, it goes here FIRST.  Any time you want information, you should look right there.  People get very annoyed when you ask things which are already in the topic.  Type /t at any time to see the topic.

(2) The Operators - These are the heads of the group.  The people most responsible for the daily workings of the channel, including moderation and the fansubs themselves.  Their names are light blue and they are given the "op cookie", the @ sign.

(3) The Half-Ops - These guys are the distro crew.  They are the ones who seed the new releases and provide IRC servers.  Without the fansubbers, the releases wouldn't exist; without these guys, the release would never get to you.  Their names are cyan and they have a % on their names.

(3.5) The Bots - These guys are file serving bots.  They are the primary source of episodes on IRC.  See the guide below on getting files from these bots.  Their names are orange and their names start with K-F|.

(4) The Voiced Users - These are the people who hang out in the channel and provide mirc-based file servers.  Their names have a + on them.

(5) The Regular Users - These are people just like yourselves.  They're just here to get One Piece.  They might even be as clueless as you feel.  Their names carry no mark.

Getting One Piece
How to download from a bot.

We have several bots in the channel.  They carry episodes of One Piece in varying amounts.  You can find their names on the side of the channel.  They will usually have a % sign, and their names will start with K-F|.

In the channel example above, K-F|Smoker is online and in the channel.

To get a list of the episodes the bot has, you use this trigger:
/msg (name of the bot) xdcc list

So, for K-F|Smoker, the trigger is:
/msg K-F|Smoker xdcc list

Most bots that have too many packs to list them all one at a time will reply with a URL for their list.
K-F|Smoker contains all of the One Piece episodes, so you will get this as a reply:

-K-F|Smoker- XDCC LIST Denied. http://animemedia.org/bot/smoker.php

This tells you that his pack list is at http://animemedia.org/bot/smoker.php

Other bots which do not have as many episodes on them may list their episodes one by one, right in the IRC window.

Either way, on a website, or on IRC, you will get a list which looks like this:

**  242 packs  **   0 of 28 slots open, Queue: 10/25, Record: 2797.2KB/s
**  Bandwidth Usage  **  Current: 804.5KB/s, Cap: 2000.0KB/s, Record: 9041.2KB/s
**  To request a file, type "/msg K-F|Smoker xdcc send #x"  **
**  To request details, type "/msg K-F|Smoker xdcc info #x"  **
#1   107x [225M] [K-F&AKUPX]_One_Piece_001_[44899E42].avi
#2    76x [225M] [K-F&AKUPX]_One_Piece_002_[DC2AFB03].avi
#3    68x [225M] [K-F&AKUPX]_One_Piece_003_[E8C81815].avi
#4    72x [178M] [K-F&AKUPX]_One_Piece_004_[35E8EC6F].avi
#5    83x [171M] [K-F&AKUPX]_One_Piece_005_[89BA23B1].avi
[...continues...]

In this part of the list, you can see that it says how to request a file (meaning how to download one).
The general format is :
/msg (name of bot) xdcc send #X
(Note: X is the number (#) of the file, the number in the first column.)

So, let's suppose you wanted to get Episode 004 from K-F|Smoker.

To request this episode, you would type in:
/msg K-F|Smoker xdcc send #4

You will most likely be placed in a queue, because you are not the only person who is downloading.
There is no need to worry. As long as you keep IRC open, the file will eventually send.

You can queue episodes on all of the bots, but only one episode per bot.  This lets you queue up several files, but leaves some for everyone else.

THAT'S IT!  That is all there is to being able to use IRC.  It's a lot of text, but it's very easy to do.

There is, of course, a lot more you can learn.  But nothing else is necessary for you to be able to download and chat.

I understand what you're saying to do but I can't seem to get the IRC bit to connect to anything. hmm Sorry if I seem like a hassel.

Re: How to use IRC

Do you have a firewall or router that might be blocking your connection?

Re: How to use IRC

I believe I have a router - why would that be getting in the way for curiousity's sake? Do you need to get the IRC to work to watch the episodes using the bittorent? (This may not really be the place to be asking this. ^^;

Re: How to use IRC

It may not be forwarding the ports used to connect to the IRC server to your computer (or even not forwarding them at all).

My best advice is to make the router as transparent to your computer as possible, and you will have fewer difficulties with IRC and BT.

Sorry, but I don't know how to do that.  It depends on your specific router.  And I don't even have one to boot ^^;

Re: How to use IRC

Usually, IRC connections should work even behind a router without (major) problems, unless the router has been specifically configured to block IRC. However, many a IRC server request an ident from the user. The router may block that query. In most cases, the server will let you connect anyway, but you have to wait until his query times out, so connection can take a little more time than usual (3 minutes maybe).

If you see an open window sitting there, rather than a 'connection closed / refused' message, and you didn't give it some time, this may be the cause for your problem.

You don't need IRC for BT files, but BT will still benefit greatly from a properly configured router. Telling your router to forward your listen port will allow more people to connect to you. Not needed, but it will make things faster. Yeah, no IRC required. You just need a BT client and the files located in the "Get One Piece!" link at the top of the page.

Do a search for the file on your computer (search for k-f_sysreset).

Shadowz987:
The folder called "download" under the folder "k-f_sysereset" where you have your mirc.exe file is the default download location.  So, for example:
C:\irc\k-f_sysreset\download\

Go to options>connect>servers and make sure rizon is selected. Clicking the "#Kaizoku-Fansubs" link the most recent news post will also load you directly to the right srever and channel.

Re: How to use IRC

whatever the number the bot has listed for which ever movie you want. Like the guide says, use the xdcc list command for the list of which numbers trigger what on that bot.

Re: How to use IRC

Exile : K-F|Smoker and K-F|Apis both have the movies we have subbed.
Type /msg K-F|Smoker xdcc list  (or K-F|Apis) and it will tell you which packs the movies are.

Re: How to use IRC

On my keyboard, it is above the backslash, so Shift+\ = |

On mIRC, you can also just type k-f and then press the Tab key, and it will find a name starting with whatever you typed.

Or you can just copy from this site and paste to mIRC.

Dythim you can hot link these for the time being. If there's trafic, rapidshare won't delete them.

The link to the k-f_sysreset.zip file is up on my server but iam not posting it again, find it yourself.

The last few episodes? Try the guides on the main page under the news. For the older episodes try this
