Interesting. But I doubt it would be a very safe place to live. Also you have to factor in the time it will take to build, I doubt it will be finished within our lifetimes.

The pyramid is like its own little city Draco. It will be housing, markets, restaurants, company's. Basically just more room for Tokyo to grow.

Sheeeeeit. They might as well have hot chicks in mobile suits flyin' around battling evil cyborgs while they're at it.

That's never gonna happen. Well, never being the next 200 years... They're still paying off all those zany bubble economy projects.

That looks awesome. Very nice but I agree. I'm afraid that none of us will ever see that big_smile (maybe our grandchildren or something...or further down the line) and theres so many risks to something like that. Its a challenge but really interesting idea.

Wow.. that's amazing.. I love the concept...

The Bay would look less clear with that huge thing in it.. but Japan needs the room.

Without the tsunamis or earthquakes and that kinda crap,  this isn't really a bad idea.

I think it's a cool idea. A dumb one, maybe, but still cool. What would it be used for?

maybe it will be a future manga and anime studio where the artists can live just to create anime. Like the Hive in that so-so Resident Evil movie.

I actually saw this video 4 years ago...  It was on some "technology" chanel...

Looks awesome, but it would take along time to complete... and could potentially be a major terrorist target.

Is that Ueno market they're showing at the beginning of the video?

Meh, it's just a proposal like that giant tower they were proposing a while back.

Very good. Yeah, that's Ameyoko in Ueno.

By the way, they really are building that giant tower.

Re: 3000 ft. pyramid proposed for Tokyo bay

I don't see this happening in the near future either. If built, it would require constant monitoring and maintenance. I heard a while back (years ago) that they were compressing trash and using it to help prevent Tokyo from sinking. Are they still doing that? If anything they should solve the problem of Tokyo sinking before they attempt something like this.

Re: 3000 ft. pyramid proposed for Tokyo bay

huh... ya, not happening anytime soon. even that guy in charge of it said so. rather than just part 1, which really doesnt say much:
Part 1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vfsoBAT27pA
Part 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f5ybBm04D5o
Part 3: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-jt9JWxy0Fg
Part 4: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R6923kXiROg
Part 5: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tzr4UXqhcPg

i understand that need to have more room... but... wont they just fill it up all over again? its not like making a big building will make the population growth slow down.
and this is the first part to that tower documentary:

Amazing idea, but, like that space shoot elevator, we have to wait for them to perfect those carbon nanotubes.

There's, one other thing, what are the legal issues with basicly blocking tokyo bay?

Haha, yeah. However, even if it doesn't get built anytime soon, it's a really interesting project from an engineering standpoint.

I heard something or other about it, but never saw it. I think the video might be much older than a year. But that doesn't make it unworthy of discussion tongue

I saw it about a year ago too.  National Geographic also did an article about it, as well as popular science.
