Lately lots of people have been posting here complaining that they are banned, so here's a short and hopefully informative thread for you guys.
First of all, the forums and IRC are almost completely separate. Almost nobody who comes here has any power on the IRC channel, if they even go there. The best thing to do in any channel whenever you get banned and don't know why, is to message whoever banned you or a channel operator. Don't post about it here.
Why am I banned, you ask? Usually when you get kicked, it will tell you what you did. Probably you didn't read the rules or the channel topic. Common things are trying @find, asking about releases, mentioning other groups, spoilers, abusing the xdcc commands, and channel flooding/spam. Many of these bans are automatic and are also lifted automatically after a certain time, which usually ranges from about 5 minutes to a day. Otherwise, you were probably banned for pissing off the ops, and the only thing you can do is message whoever did it or hope they remember to unban you later.
If you're absolutely sure you did nothing wrong, you are unable to contact an op, AND you've waited at least 24 hours since it occurred, then you can PM me here on the forums. DO NOT PM OTHER STAFF. They don't use IRC. And again, don't start a thread or post about it. In the case of this absolute last resort, include not only your nick but also your hostname/mask in your PM. Most bans are not on a nick but on a host, and therefore providing your nick doesn't help much. If you don't know what your hostname is, do a whois on yourself and copy/paste the first line here. For me, that would be:
Foolio ~dy@crew.kaizoku-fansubs.com * Coolio
EDIT: Remember, guest nicks are banned. If your nick starts with "guest," you will not be allowed to join. A few people have been asking why they're banned and it has been this, so make sure you have an original nick first.
