Bob's Troubleshooting Guide (Work In Progress)

Troubleshooting Index:
Problem 1) My episodes don't play!
Problem 2) I can't download using bit torrent!
Problem 3) I'm a total newb and I don't know how to download!
Problem 4) The episodes play but I don't hear any sound!
Problem 5) The episodes play but when I try to seek, it doesn't work!!!
Problem 6) I get the message "Connection? Arrr... We couldn't get to our tracker. See for yourself at http://tracker.kaizoku-fansubs.com" when I click Get One Piece! WTF is up with that?
Problem 7) Quicktimes gives me this message: "Error -50: an unknown error occured".

Frequently Asked Questions:
FAQ 1) I'm an ingrate retard and I think K-F is... behind or slow. Why?
FAQ 2) I want to "Help" K-F by uploading all your episodes to youtube.com or something similar. Should I?

------------

Problem 1: My episodes don't play!

Answer:
First, make sure that you downloaded the file completely using BitTorrent or an equivilent client. I recommend UTorrent.
Second, you must check to see if you downloaded the entire file, some users can be confused by the pre-allocation step and think it is downloading instead of allocating space on the hard drive.

Third, if you think you downloaded the file completely, you should then check for corruption. Download and use this program to check for corruption: http://mason.gmu.edu/~bchan/CRC32Finder.exe Simply drag and drop the file to have the program automatically verify the CRC32 code that's in the file name with the contents of the file.

Screenshot of the program in action: http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a199/Bobc64/crc32.jpg
If the program says "no CRC32 in file name" then the file is corrupt or unfinished. Finish downloading the file with a bit torrent client.

Fourth, make sure you have downloaded and installed the CORRECT codecs and media player to play the file. Quicktime does NOT play mp4 files correctly. So if your using it, use something else.

NOTE: It is highly RECOMMENDED to uninstall all other codecs INCLUDING the Divx codec before installing CCCP (since it replaces those codecs, you can manually install the ones you want after CCCP is installed, just make sure to disable that specific type of decoding in the ffdshow options)
Make sure you have installed CCCP: Vista?/XP/2000: http://www.cccp-project.net/download.php?type=cccp
9x/ME: http://www.cccp-project.net/download.php?type=cccp9x

You can also follow K-F's recommendations on their codec page: http://kaizoku-fansubs.com/page.php?pg=codecs

OPTIONAL (recommended for people with slower computers) If your computer sucks, you'll need the ultra efficient COREAVC h264 codec for the h264 encoded episodes: Download the codec here: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=BMXVHKUP#
Once installed, go into the FFDSHOW options (look in the start menu under "Combined Community Codec Pack" and then "FFDShow Video Decoder Configuration") and set H264 to disabled.
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a199/Bobc64/h264disabled.png
I also recommend installing the Xvid codec from http://www.koepi.org/xvid.shtml, and disabling xvid in ffdshow (as seen in the above screenshot next to xvid).

Fifth, make sure your using Media Player Classic (look under the start menu in "Combined Community Codec Pack") and then drag the file into the media player.

Six, If you can't get it to work STILL, download Graphedit http://www.videohelp.com/download/graphedit041201.zip, unzip, run it and then drag the file onto it. Then compare what it spits out with this image (click for full size):
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a199/Bobc64/th_graphedit.jpg
If you didn't do the optional step, you should see Ffdshow where CoreAVC is. If your missing anything, then it won't play. Make sure the missing item is installed and try again.

Seven, if your computer is JUST SO OLD that it is starting to fossilize then you can download the newer episodes in XVID format: http://www.kaizoku-fansubs.com/forum/vi … hp?id=2213 Note: these are UNOFFICIAL encodes done by myself and others.

Finally, if all else fails, download Video LAN player (a codec-less player that can play almost anything...) from here: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-windows.html

---------------------------
Problem 2: I can't download using bit torrent!

Workaround: Use IRC. Read about it here: http://www.kaizoku-fansubs.com/forum/vi … .php?id=30

Answer:
First, make sure your using a REAL bit torrent client. I recommend UTorrent.
Second, make sure your not using a firewall or a router or anything that shares the Internet. NOTE: IF YOUR using your SCHOOL or any other Internet provider that ISNT specifically providing you service, then YOUR SCREWED if your not running a firewall or router and can't use IRC.

Third, disable your firewall. Go figure it out for yourself. You can disable the windows firewall in the control panel under "windows firewall"

Fourth, if you have a router: Learn how to port forward your router at http://www.portforward.com/

To find the port that you need to forward: go into the utorrent options. Make sure to forward BOTH TCP and UDP ports.
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a199/Bobc64/utorrent.jpg
You can set the port to whatever you want or copy mine. You should also check the other two boxes. You can leave the other boxes as default. Me, I set them to whatever I need at the time, so you guys that say "omg wtf hes limiting his upsteam" can go stfu because I needed the bandwidth for a VOIP call.

Fifth, if all else fails, then connect your computer directly to the modem. If this still doesn't work, then your ISP is either blocking bit torrent traffic on purpose or they're using a NAT "firewall" as a cheap cost-saving measure that screws you. Try using IRC instead.

---------------------------
Problem 3: I'm a total newb and I don't know how to download!

Answer:
First, download a Bit Torrent client. I recommend UTorrent. Bittorrent is the primary means of getting One Piece.
Second, install it (Bit Torrent).
Third, click "Get One Piece" at the top of the website. Choose the "Bittorrent" link at the top of the page and then click the links to the files that you want to download. All those links have the extention .torrent. Thus you need a program called Bit Torrent, as stated above.
Fourth, your Bit Torrent client should then load and import the information you need to start downloading the file to your computer!
Fifth, Go to sleep until it finishes downloading. If it does not download, you may be behind a firewall or your ISP has prevented Bit Torrent from working. See "Problem 2: I can't download using bit torrent!" above.

---------------------------
Problem 4: The episodes play but I don't hear any sound!

Answer:
First, open the FFDShow Audio Decoder Configuration. If you installed CCCP then you should be able to access it through:

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a199/Bobc64/ffdshowaudio.jpg

Second, once you have it open: http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a199/Bobc64/ffdshowaac.jpg
make sure AAC is set to libfaad2 and NOT disabled.

Third, if that doesn't fix it, download and install the CORE AAC directshow filter: http://www.rarewares.org/files/aac/COREaacDS.zip

---------------------------
Problem 5: The episodes play but when I try to seek, it doesn't work!!!

Answer:
Update your Haali media splitter. Download the latest from http://haali.cs.msu.ru/mkv/MatroskaSplitter.exe or visit the official site at http://haali.cs.msu.ru/mkv/

---------------------------
Problem 6: I get the message "Connection? Arrr... We couldn't get to our tracker. See for yourself at http://tracker.kaizoku-fansubs.com" when I click Get One Piece! WTF is up with that?

Answer:
The bittorrent tracker for Kaizoku-fansubs is Down/Broken/In the progress of being fixed. Use IRC. Read about IRC here: http://www.kaizoku-fansubs.com/forum/vi … .php?id=30
OR you can have some patience and wait for the staff to fix it.

---------------------------
Problem 7) Quicktime gives me this message: "Error -50: an unknown error occurred".
Answer:
Don't use Quicktime. Quicktime only plays it's own formats. Use a directshow player like Windows Media Player, Media Player Classic, BSPlayer, or any of the other players out there that actually uses codecs. You should also go into quicktime's preferences and uncheck this box:
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a199/Bobc64/quicktime.jpg

---------------------------
FAQ 1: I'm an ingrate retard and I think K-F is... behind or slow. Why?

Answer:
First, K-F is "behind" because they STARTED 100 episodes behind. They also use DVD rips, which are released AFTER it airs in japan!
Second, translating is, contrary to whatever beliefs you might have, is VERY hard. Take this example: try using babelfish to translate this simple sentence into Japanese: "I have a dog". Then translate it back. Yeah. Translating is NOT as easy as typing it out in babelfish and hitting translate.
Third, K-F has LIVES, they can't dedicate all 24 hours of their day to fansub episodes. Some of the staff is in college, some have REAL jobs, some have girlfriends, and some have more important things to do.
Fourth, besides translating, there are a TON of other steps that need to be done. Ripping from the dvd, encoding the audio/video to be sent to the translator, transferring the stuff to the translator and other staff, translating the audio, editing the translation to make sure it matches the audio, editing the translation to make sure it makes sense in English, re-editing to catch grammar problems, timing the translated text, translating the song, precision timing the translated text so it looks nice/appears in the right place, typesetting the text (making sure the text doesn't run off the side of the screen, placing text next to signs, etc), creating/implementing the karaoke effect, applying filters to the dvd video (if needed), encoding the video, encoding the audio, muxing the streams together, encoding the subtitles/video/audio, quality checking the video for missing text/bugs/compression errors, sending the encoded videos to other QC members, re-encoding/editing if necessary, pre-distroing to all irc bots/http servers/torrent tracker, and finally it goes to you.

---------------------------
FAQ 2) I want to "Help" K-F by uploading all your episodes to youtube.com or something similar. Should I?

Answer: No.
1) Sooner or later this will happen: http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a199/Bobc64/th_copyright.png
2) K-F is illegal. All fansubs are technically illegal. See: http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20061020-8038.html
3) K-F doesn't want the attention of all those big companies with lawyers.

So no. Do K-F a favor by NOT uploading to youtube.com or any other service that can potentially give big media companies the idea of suing K-F

Re: Bob's Troubleshooting Guide (Work In Progress)

Nice guide! but one thing...
On the 4th step, clarify that one should uninstall all previously installed codecs and packs.

Also, when installing, tell the installer to only install MPC.
So instead of "both players", choose "media player classic".
So this way, everything can be played with MPC, without switching and conflict issues.

Re: Bob's Troubleshooting Guide (Work In Progress)

CCCP doesn't by default, associate files with either player.

Some codec packs are REALLY buggy when uninstalling, and do not uninstall everything, leaving broken refrences in the registry. Anyway, unless the codec installed before don't decode stuff that it is supposed to, then it shouldn't matter.

Re: Bob's Troubleshooting Guide (Work In Progress)

Well, actually i dont know about you but, everytime i install CCCP (like after a fresh install of windows), it automatically puts all the mp4 files into MPC. It shows the MPC icon for the mp4 files.

And about the codecs, i donno...
For example, having a seperate install of um, lets say DVIX, b4 installing CCCP will cause conflicts with other players.
There has to be a reason why ppl who made it insists on unintalling previously installed codecs...

Oh and i forgot to mention, don't direct link to the CCCP download page. Not every1 has win XP/2k, so direct linking to that perticular download wont work for them. I reccomend linking to the home page, so people can choose what to download and get more info on what the heck they're downloading! wink

Re: Bob's Troubleshooting Guide (Work In Progress)

The Windows port of MPlayer is really good too. It has built in support for H.264 just like VLC, but uses less CPU than even CoreAVC. Just a thought for anyone that would like to try it.

FOR MAC USERS: This is a guide to use µTorrent on Mac. I dont have one, so I dont know how well it works. http://torrentfreak.com/how-to-run-utorrent-in-osx/

MPlayer uses libavcodec, which is actually the component of FFDSHOW that decodes h264...

good points, however someone that can't get the file to play is less likely to rename the filename.

hmm, i totally missed this thread. a maybe addition to #6 is that, even though the tracker is down, the torrents still work, and people who are seeding still are, even if u cant see the tracker listing. So, some people have uploaded the torrents to help avoid the problem if it arises again.

Which one of your troubleshooting indexes should I go to if I have downloaded the file (it says 137 KB for episodes 21-30 size, don't know if that's as it should be) and clicked the file, opened through Internet Explorer on a Windows, but are just perpetually bombarded with "Do you want to open or save this file" windows?

Re: Bob's Troubleshooting Guide (Work In Progress)

Problem 1.
It seems you are trying to "play" the torrent file. That file isn't the episodes, it opens in a torrent client which then downloads the episodes. The actual batch of 10 episodes will be several gigabytes in size.

Re: Bob's Troubleshooting Guide (Work In Progress)

Hello, I have been here for a little while and all the OP I have seen has been in thanks to K-F and their great work. I recently got a new PC and Im trying to install some stuff I had in my old fossil and the OP episodes are one of them. This new PC uses Windows Vista. OK for the most part of this tutorial I have done everything correctly, at least I think. My problem at the moment is that I can hear the episodes but I cant see them. I must be doing something wrong, because they cannot play on the VLC either. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
