Breath of the Brewing Storm RP Thread

OOC: The story starts in the North blue in the portside city of Rackham. This is a pirate's haven, and many crews have been known to make their start from this location. However, there may be a nasty suprise in the near future...

- The sun had just started to go over the horizon, giving way to night as a young man stepped out from the boiling metal shop. Another hard day's work lets him survive for one more day, but in his mind, he knows he will be able to continue on his journey soon. He took a deep breath, sucking in the recently chilled air, and released it. His breath formed a cloud in front of his eyes and quickly dissolved. The cold didn't bother him. It rarely did. Now that he was finished working for the day, he decided he deserved a chance to relax. However, he was only trying to fool himself. <Damnit Erik, you know why you're heading to the pub....> Pirates. Strong pirates. If he was lucky, he'd be able to find a group of them strong enough to join up with and leave this forsaken town. Running his hand down the handle of his wrench, Erik took another deep breath and followed a path he had taken every day since he was left on this island. Smokey's Pub. That was the name of the place. It wasn't a bad place, not in the slightest. Smokey himself was a grizzled old man, but he was big and strong enough to quell any trouble before it could start. He was also a kind heart and cooked the best food for leagues around... and fortunately, Erik was on his good side.
- The second that Erik stepped into the pub, everyone went quiet. Everyone looked towards the door, and just looked back. "What?" Seeing that there wasn't anyone special, the entire crowd went back to their business. Erik sauntered over to his usual barstool and plopped down. "Long night, boy?"
- Erik looked up into the dark glasses that covered Smokey's eyes. "Heh. Yeah... I guess you could say that. Just gimme the usual, Smokes." A few seconds after he uttered those words, Erik leaned in to whisper to the bartender. "...and how's the pirate special?"

Re: Breath of the Brewing Storm RP Thread

As Eric asked his question, the door was opened again.  This time, it was clear that the person entering was different, somehow.  He didn't look exceedingly strong, but he wore an unmistakable white coat.  The scarf, the hat, everything about him seamed to say one thing to a pirate.  "Marine?"  Eric asked the bartend.
"Nope," Smokey replied, gesturing the man over to the bar, "I think this one's a bit different."  As the man moved to sit down, the bar noticed...the man had crossed out the word "marine" on his hat, and had put crossed bones under the kanji for "justice" on his jacket.
He sat down, and everyone went back to their business, and started talking.  The man had sat close to Eric.   "That's a captain's jacket isn't it?"  Eric asked.  "How did you get it?"
The man looked over to him, and smiled.  "Who knows, maybe I killed a captain and took this from him?"
"I doubt it..." Smokey told him, putting an end to his boasting.  "You don't look like you could kill a marine captain...did you, make that?"
"Nope, I earned it myself."  The man decided that this was the time.  "My name is Jack, Jackson Raven..."  Smokey had heard a bit of him, not much though...
"Aren't you dead?" he asked...but then it hit him...why a captain would want to be dead.  "Ah, wait...guess you would be a ghost then..." he laughed a bit after that...then he asked.  "Well, you gonna' order anything, or just sit there and ruin my business?"
"Just an ale." Jack said...and whispered "any good pirates in here, I'm lookin' for nakama..."

Re: Breath of the Brewing Storm RP Thread

The door opened once more. A teenaged girl wearing a white dress walked into the pub. The people in the pub again stopped talking and looked to see who entered. They stayed silent for a short while, wondering what a young girl was doing in a tavern. The girl quietly closed the door and slowly crossed the room to the counter where Erik was talking with the bartender. Shivering from the cold, she sat down.

"S-s-something-g w-warm p-please," she said to the bartender through her shivering. Concerned for the girl's health, the bartender went to get a mug of hot cider. As she waited, she remembered what she had heard as she passed the marine... Any good pirates in here, I'm looking for nakama...

"Th-thank you," the girl said as Smokey brought her drink. She turned towards the marine. "So, an ex-marine looking for a crew," the girl said, after taking a sip of cider.

"What's it to you, miss?" the man whispered.

"I have no family around here, and I've been looking for a way off this island. I know how to navigate quite well, and I can fight when neceessary," the girl replied.

OOC: that last line of hers sounded kinda lame... if i think of a better way to phrase it, ill change it...

Re: Breath of the Brewing Storm RP Thread

Vincent sat outside of the pub, a shirtless vagabond. All he had to his name now was his linked katanas. He looked up into the sky behind his tinted glasses, “What am I doing?” he thought, “What happened to me?” he sighed and put his head in his hand. It was getting cold, and he didn’t even have a shirt to keep him warm. “A drink would warm me up…” he thought looking back into the skies, “God I wish I had a drink.” It started to rain a little, and then harder. Vincent was not having his usual good luck. He hadn’t for a while now. He didn’t know what to do or where to go, but he knew he couldn’t go into the pub without money; Smokey would make sure of that. He wished he could return to his past, and that made him angry, “What’s the point of wishing for pointless things?” he thought, “I just need to get some food, or even just an excuse to get inside the pub and get warm.” Vincent shivered, “its cold…”

Re: Breath of the Brewing Storm RP Thread

- Erik eyed the man who claimed that he was a former Marine captain carefully while taking a few light drinks from his mug of ale. After some thinking, he finally spoke up. "This is a good place to find pirates, but you need to know what you're looking for." This was all that Erik wanted to say at first. If he was looking for a crew, he must be powerful, or at least smart. Maybe this was just the chance he was looking for! Erik ran his hand down his wrench, which was something he always did when he gets nervous or excited. A grin cracked across Erik's face as Jack set his drink on the bar counter and looked at him. "Why do you care?" Erik answered in a low voice. "Let's just say we have similar interests."
- Erik still had a grin on his face as Smokey placed Erik's order in front of him. "Eat up, kid. That stuff gets cold quick." Smokey laughed through his thick gray and white beard as Erik started to eat, then looked to the girl. "Hey, you look like yer freezin'. Here." He reached under the bar and pulled up a blanket. "Take it or you'll shiver your arms off." The girl reluctantly wrapped herself in the blanket as she sat on the barstool. "You got a name, miss?"

The girl looked at the bartender. "A... name? Y-yes-s... th-they call m-me R-Rise..."
"Rise? That's an interesting name," Smokey responded.
"It-it's not my real n-name," replied the girl. "I have no r-real name."
"No name? So you're an orphan?"
"I-i guess you c-could call me th-that," Rise said. She stopped talking so she could finish her cider.

Re: Breath of the Brewing Storm RP Thread

He looked up as it started to rain, just a little, and then hard. He stood there for a second, and looked at the sky. "Man... This just blows...." He said, and looked around. He broke into a run, looking for a pub, or someplace where he could get out of the rain. He never really liked the rain, any water at all, really, since he ate his fruit. He turned, seeing a pub. A man (Vincent) was sitting outside. He stopped, looking at him, and walked to the door, and stopped. "What are you doing around here...?" He asked, as if he'd seen the person before.

"I don't have any money, so I can't go in." The man had said, looking at the other side of the street.  Kiba reached into his pocket. "Hmm.... Ah ha!" He pulled out just enough Belli for the cheapst drink on the menu. "It's not exactly much, but you can have it." Kiba said, placing it on the ground beside the man. The man looked at it, as Kiba went in.

Kiba went to the darkest corner of the room, trying to stay out of site as he mainly just tried to warm up.

Jack heard what Eric had said.  "Know what I'm looking for...hmmm......well, my ship right now is pretty small," he replied with a laugh, "but I know exactly what I need..." Jack looked over at Rise.  "I've heard her name before...where?"  Jack decided to talk to her "So, you've got nowhere to go?"
"N-no...but I can navigate...
"I can navigate too you know..." Jack said.  The girl put down her cider, but then Jack spoke up again "however, my map drawing skills are lacking...you can join my ship."
"Hey," Eric started to say...but Jack stoped him and whispered...
"I've heard her name somewhere...and untill I remember where, I'll let her join my crew."  Jack then looked to Eric.  "What are your skills then?"
"Repairman!" Eric told him, running his hand to his wrench again.  "That kid... Jack though "he knows how to use that wrench as a weapon too, otherwise he wouldn't continually stroke it...
"Good, in any ocean your dead without a repairman..." Jack told him, "but, what did you mean by 'knowing what to look for'?"

Re: Breath of the Brewing Storm RP Thread

Ooc: I am keeping Vincent outside for now in case toenails is accepted and likes my idea of a jumping in post. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Vincent laughed, “Reduced to begging huh? I can’t believe I can accept another man’s pity so easily.” Vincent looked at the change the other man had given him and smiled just a little, “It wasn’t pity, it was kindness. I should still return it though.” Vincent was cold though, and the thought of even the cheapest drink left him drooling, “How long has it been since last ate or drank anything?” he thought, “Maybe I should use this money…”

Re: Breath of the Brewing Storm RP Thread

- The food on Erik's plate disappeared quickly. It seemed like that was the only meal Erik had that day. "What did I mean? I meant that big crews need big ships. If you're travelling by yourself, you're probably sailing around on a little dinghy." Without a pause, Erik looked over to Smokey for a second. "Good food tonight Smokes!" Smokey didn't even look at him when he laughed and responded. "You say that every night, you scatterbrained wrench jockey!" They laughed as Smokey refilled all their drinks.
- "Anyway..." Erik turned back to Jack and adjusted his welding goggles. He leaned in and started speaking to Jack in a whisper. "There's gonna be a bazarr happening soon. Trade ships and pirates from all over will be coming here to sell what they have. If we find enough people, swiping a ship'll be child's play." Looking around to see if anyone was listening, Erik stopped smiling. "We'll need a ship. A decent one."
- Jack smiled a bit. "You really want to get the hell out of here, don't you?" Erik's face became serious. "More than you know..."

Re: Breath of the Brewing Storm RP Thread

The door went up in Smokey's bar, but hardly any light came in through the doorway. The 7 foot man clad in viking attire ducked his head to fit inside, and walked over to the bar, sitting down on a barstool that BARELY held his weight. "HAIL, BARKEEP! A pint of your finest, and a question!" he didn't SEEM to be loud on purpose, but the people next to him almost jumped in their seats. "As barkeep, you are one to peddle rumors and hearsay, so I bring it upon you to tell me if you have heard of 'The Angel Fruit'"

Smokey mused. "Angel Fruit? I suppose that has something to do with the devil fruit?" the giant gasped "YOU KNOW WHERE IT IS!?!" Smokey shook his head "No, I just assumed. But I am pretty sure that there is nothing like that on THIS island. If you ask me, you should go to the Grand Line, that is where all the weird stuff comes from." The large man reeled back and sighed, then drained his beer in one long chug. "KYE FWE FWE FWE FWE FWE KYE FWE FWE!" he laughed. Just about everyone in the establishment looked upon the man with a raised eyebrow. "Thank you for the advice, barkeep!" Braan rummaged through his belt-pouch and counted his findings. "Guess I'll have another then! My toy-ship barely goes much anymore since I came through the annoying belt! KYE FWE FWE FWE!" Braan paid for his beers and tossed the rest of the money into the tip-jar.

Re: Breath of the Brewing Storm RP Thread

The belt...THE CALM BELT!? Jack's train of thought arrived at this conclusion...he couldn't think of another one.  As the tall man stood up to leave, Eric said "Are...are you a giant?" before the man could answer...Jack's brain reached another conclusion...
"Wait, isn't he a bit short for a giant?"  at this, the small giant became angry...
"WHAT WAS THAT!?" he said, bringing out his sword and swiping down with it.  Jack barely managed to jump out of the way before the blade crushed his barstool.  Jack at first went for his sword, but he watched the man's stance...
This man is far stronger than me...and far more well trained... he then thought of a way out...If he's a warrior, he might accept a challenge I can win...  "I chalange you" Jack announced, drawing his sword "TO A GAME OF CHESS!!!"
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Outside the pub:
Vincent: "Oh, someone playing a chess game?"
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Inside the pub:
"I accept!" the giant said, tapping his sword on Jack's cutlass. "Now...how do you play this game...?"  Jack's jaw dropped...He acceped a challenge for a game he dosn't even know how to play???  What is this guy?!

Re: Breath of the Brewing Storm RP Thread

“Can I offer you some food?” A man in a pristine white suit with a closed left eye asked Vincent, “You look very hungry.”

“Thank you,” Vincent said, “but I really shouldn’t take any of your money.”

“That’s quite alright.” the man said smiling, “Then may I play you a song? That would cost me nothing, and make both of us fell better.”

“I would like that.” Vincent said as the man cleared his throat and drew his sword. Vincent was confused by this, but ready to draw his own at a second’s notice. “And what is the purpose of this sword?” he asked.

“I am sorry if I alarmed you, I simply use it to amplify my music.” The immaculate man said, and then noticing the vagrant’s confused look he added, “It is hard to explain, just listen.” The strangely immaculate man started to whistle and tap his sword producing an absolutely enchanting sound that washed over Vincent. This music was enchanting. Almost like eating some kind of forbidden fruit. The song was short but beautiful, and by the time it was over Vincent’s spirits were lifted, and his silly notions of pride evaporated. “Are you sure I can’t by you so food?” the immaculate musician asked as he reached out his hand to help Vincent up.

“Actually, I would love some food Vincent said as he grabbed the man’s hand, “What is your name?”

“Artifex,” Artifex replied, “and yours?”

“Vincent,” Vincent said as he got up. All of a sudden there was some commotion in the bar, and Vincent heard, "I challenge you, TO A GAME OF CHESS!!!"

“Oh, someone’s playing a chess game?" Vincent said, perking up even more, “I love a good game of chess; we should watch them once we get the food.”

Smokey was at the ready as soon as Vincent entered his establishment, “What have I told you about comin’ in here without any money?” he yelled, “I’ve already given you way too many free meals!”

“It isn’t like that this time!” Vincent said with an alarmed look, “Artifax here said he wanted to treat me to some food.”

“I bet you tricked him into it or something…” Smokey said walking back behind the counter.

“There is a lot of love around here, as you can see.” Vincent said looking at the slightly alarmed Artifax. Then Vincent spotted the man who had given him money for a drink earlier and said, “I know this is unreasonable of me, but could I invite that man over there to have a drink with us? He was kind to me earlier, and despite having no money of my own, I would like to return his kindness.”

“With my money it would seem.” Artifax said with a smile, “of course you may.”

“Well what do ya want?” Smokey yelled, “I ain’t gonna wait much longer.”

“I’ll have the biggest dish you have, this nice man next to me will have the nicest dish you have, and we’ll both have the nicest ale you have on you right now! In the biggest mugs you have!” Vincent said almost forgetting to order something for the man from before, “and another drink for the man in the corner.” Vincent was of course pointing at Kiba, much to Kiba’s surprise.

“This man has absolutely no problem spending my money all of a sudden.” Artifax thought, “I did offer though, and he looked quite hungry.”
Jack was suspicious. He had heard the name Vincent before, that was no surprise at all, but this man looked exactly like a very infamous Vincent amongst marines, and his unique weapons were exactly like what that Vincent had been described as carrying. “Could he really be the ex-marine strategist who worked his way up to being chief military advisor on the warships of several vise-admirals?” Jack thought as he tried to remember the picture of Vincent he had seen before, “If that is true, this man is incredibly intelligent, and possibly dangerous. He could be just what I need for my crew though…”

“IT’S YOUR TURN!” the miniature giant unwittingly yelled.

As soon as Vincent and Artifex had gotten their food, and Kiba had gotten his drink and introduced himself, they all sat down at the table with the chess board.

“That was a bad move.” Vincent said to the giant, “You should have moved your rook to h6 and captured his queen. You would have lost the rook, but it would have set you up to trap his king.”

Ooc: I know that this is pretty simple as chess speak goes, but I just had to add context. I don’t really know how I could better describe a game of chess without just dictating it.

IC: “THIS ISN”T YOUR GAME TO PLAY!” the little giant yelled, “DON’T INTERFERE WITH OUR WARRIOR’S COMPETITION!”

“You’re right,” Vincent said, “I had no right.” Artifax finished his food remarkably fast, got up, said good evening to Vincent, and left. Vincent thanked him for his kindness, and wished him the best of luck. The chess game was unremarkably short, having that the behemoth new nothing of chess. The only surprising thing was how fast he picked up the game. The game may have been short, but it was just enough time to get Vincent’s blood boiling. He NEEDED to start playing something. His gambling addiction was rearing its ugly head.

“It seems you are looking for a crew.” Vincent was trying to be cunning.

“What of it?” Jack asked, “Are you looking to join?”

“I might be,” Vincent had already realized that Jack was an ex-marine (or at least looked a lot like one) and had no intention of being ordered around by anyone in the navy or ex-navy ever again, “but you’d have to beat me in a game of chess to get me on your team.” Vincent then paused and added in, “If I win you have to swear loyalty to me. It is a one coin Davy Back Fight of sorts (Ooc: sorry for the spoiler, but the actual Davy Back Fight is only like 3 episodes away, so I thought it would be okay).”

“You would bet your freedom?” Jack asked.

“Well I won’t bet my swords, and as you can plainly see I have nothing else to wager.” Vincent was lying. He also had a devil fruit, but he wasn’t going to wager it, and he didn’t intend on losing anyways.

“Fine,” Jack said, “but not chess, I don’t know how well I would fair against you in a game like that. Let’s play cards instead.”

Vincent didn’t want to rely on luck instead of skill, but he couldn’t help it, “Fine,” He said, “but I pick the game. It’s called 3 suits.”

Ooc: this is not a game to anyone else to my knowledge, but I have seen it before and like to play it. All this vagueness amounts to me saying that someone else can determine the outcome of the card game, and that I will try to find a way to explain it later. If I work it right we might even be able play it online, and factor it into the game a bit more. sorry for the ten thousand pages of post, and I hope they were actually good.

Re: Breath of the Brewing Storm RP Thread

So, the match was agreed...but, the chess game would have to be finished first.  "Checkmate." Jack announced, to the giant's dismay.  He gripped his hair exclaiming "THIS GAME IS HARD!!!"
"It's two out of three remember?" Jack reminded him "You haven't quite lost yet."
Vincent was supprised "Hey, two out of three?" He asked, a bit annoyed.  "How long is that going to take?!"
"Don't worry, if it goes on too long, I'll get a clock."  He said as he moved his first piece in the new game.  He had let the giant take the first move last time...now it was Jack's turn.  The giant was thinking...and before long made a move.  A pawn was moved by the giant...then a knight by Jack...then the other knight...eventualy, the sack was initiated, and Jack's king was cornered.  "CHECKMATE!" The warrior called out in victory.  So, he learned from the schoolar's mate I tried early on in the first game...but he changed it a bit, reminds me of how that first mate used to beat me...  Jack then asked for the clock.  "This last game will be a blitz game." he explained.  "Each of us will have five minutes on the clock...that way, there are no draws..."  The giant nodded, and extended his hand before Jack moved.
"My name is Braan the Skald" he said.
He's done well with a crash course in chess...as I though, he can think a little as well as fight...
Jack smilled..."I'm Jackson Raven." and they shook hands.  Then Braan started Jack's clock and the blitz was on!

Re: Breath of the Brewing Storm RP Thread

OOC: Quite a long post just to set up Lazarus' feelings about his two permanent mental lodgers, and his general opinion of how life is going.

Artifex exited the door to the bar and shivered, feeling the cold night air. He sighed, looking at his dwindling funds. If it had been Lazarus then that Vincent character would still be out here in the cold, instead of Artifex. Still, at least it wasn't Eversor that had stumbled into that lonely wretch, or things might have gotten ugly. Interesting people in that bar though, and he had, at least, satisfied the craving of Artifex to do good. as he walked away from the bar, the suit began to dull, it's brilliant white no longer quite so resplendent, and the faintly tangeable aura of light gone from around him.  Finally, a black overcoat began to appear, weaving itself out of nothing, dropping down from the sky, only to rest on the shoulders of the man now rapidly walking away from the bar. as this heavy and dirty cloth dropped around his shoulders, the man finally opened his left eye, revealing an empty socket with a rapidly dwindling light in it.  Waiting until the light had disappeared entirely, the man then fished out an eye patch from one of the many pockets on his overcoat and placed it over his head, snapping the elastic on it with a faint pin as he put it in place over his left eye.
The man's name was Lazarus magehunter. No fixed abode, currently unemployment. He was a wanderer, moving from island to island, escaping the destruction he brought wherever he went. His life had been stable once, but now he was a slave to the raging alter ego's that lay within him. One sought only to help all of mankind, and the other wanted to do nothing but destroy, and Lazarus was a victim to both. It was all the fault of that damn devil fruit! He was constantly besieged in his mind by these two facets of his own personality, wanting contradictory things and neither resting until they had been sated. He had managed to quiet the voice of Artifex for now, but that had left Lazarus out of pocket and unable to afford the fare to the next island.
'If I ever meet that guy again I am going to kill him!' Lazarus smiled at the thought of that, since he knew that if anyone did the killing, it would be Eversor.
'speak of the devil...' he mumbled, feeling the screams of Eversor inside his head, desperate to be let out. Lazarus gritted his teeth and ignored it, despite the pain it was causing him. This island was densely populated and full of dangerous pirates too, if he could help it, there was no way Eversor was being let off the collar tonight.
Before he'd eaten that devil fruit, Lazarus had always assumed people were just... people! The truth was they were a fabulously complicated mix of light and dark sides, and the devil fruit he'd eaten had turned those light and dark sides into real, tangeable beings with wants and needs of their own. The plus side of these alter ego's was that they afforded Lazarus an awful lot of power in a fight, but the big minus was that he was never the one in control of it. He often wondered if there was a fruit that could cancel out the devil fruits power. If there was he'd be the first there...

Re: Breath of the Brewing Storm RP Thread

"KYE FWE FWE FWE!" Braan guffawed as he lined up the pieces. "This game is strange indeed! Knights never hide behind their lessers, and usually charge in a straight line, bishops shouldn't be so shifty, and the king is useless while the queen does all kinds of things! This game has rigid rules, but makes no sense! KYE FWE FWE FWE!" he studied the little pieces, which in his hands looked minescule.

After learning the rules, Braan did quite well. During the first game, he accused his opponent of making up rules, but reluctantly accepted that a knight could be beaten by a queen, a notion he found ridiculous, and that the pawns had to go diagonally ONLY to attack. As well as the disallowing of gathering all the pieces into one 'mighty charging band of warriors'. One minute into the blitz-game, he grinned "Go my whimsical horse-figurine! Defeat the odd-looking damaged cod-piece with a knob on top!" he announced as he sent his knight to take out a bishop. Then he tapped the clock.

"This is fun! It's like watching a crazy comedy performance, where all manner of things can happen! I wonder where this insane game hails from?"

Re: Breath of the Brewing Storm RP Thread

"Who knows?" Jack answered as he took Braan's knight with one of his own. "They say in this ocean that it hails form North Blue...but, this ocean is North Blue."

In this kind of game...more than raw tactics were needed.  Each opponent was now attempting to stall their enemy.  "Retreating are you, KYE FHE FHE FHE FHE"  "Oh, are you sure you want to move that there?"  This was not just chess, it was psychological warfare.

With less than a minute on his clock...Jack was stummped.  If he had more time, he might have been able to win...but due to a debate over pawn promotion, and that promoted pawn being taken...Jack was out of ideas...he sighed and said "even in chess, I'm no match for a warrior of Elbaf." he then knocked over his king..."Good game." he then added "I take back the short bit..."
The small giant smilled and patted Jack on the sholder (almost dislocating it...) "KYE FWE FWE FWE!" he laughed...(OCC:and, ran out of things for him to say....)

Re: Breath of the Brewing Storm RP Thread

- The bar was beginning to become full of loud and boisterous people, everything from gambling addicts to a giant that somehow found a way to shrink himself. Normally, Erik would have joined in with the drinking and playing of games, but he had a long day and needed to rest for the rapidly approaching bazarr. Pirates of all kinds frequented the yearly market, and all manner of strange and exotic goods leaked in. There would be huge crowds, festivities, and all manner of entertainment. All this made the perfect chance to steal supplies to sail away with. To be in top form, Erik needed to be well rested. Erik stood up from his barstool and laid the belli needed to pay Smokey on his empty plate. The room was packed with people, but Erik easily made his way to the door. Before he reached it, though, he made sure to slide by Jack. While he was distracted by Braan's well-intended slaps on the back, Erik dropped something into Jack's pocket. It would later be discovered as being a tuning fork, but for now, Jack didn't notice the extra weight. Hopefully he'd be able to figure it out.
- Erik opened the door and stepped outside just as Vincent was dealing the cards out. "...and I better not catch you cheating!" was the last thing he heard. Who did it come from? Who cares? The rain had just started to clear up, so the cold air was still thick with water and puddles had formed along the sides of the street. Erik grinned and looked to the sky, waiting for the moon to come out. Too bad it didn't. It would have been a nice night. Following the path that he'd taken countless times before, Erik headed to the shack that he was embarassed to call a home. A shipwright might have a physically rewarding job but the pay sucked. Erik found himself whistling as he walked home. Soon, there was something visible a short ways away. Under a light there was the dark figure of a man in an overcoat. He seemed to have some kind of a headache.
- Erik strolled up to the man, still remaining cautious of what might happen. "Hey... You alright bro?" The man spun around, swinging his arm at Erik. "GET AWAY! I.... I...." "You what?" Erik raised his eyebrow and had one hand on his wrench clip.

(OOC: that's Lazarus, just so you know...)

Re: Breath of the Brewing Storm RP Thread

Lazarus hated nosy do-gooders, not because of what they were trying to do, but because they always seemed to come in at exactly the wrong moment. Up until he'd heard the voice questioning if he was allright, Eversor had been containable, restive but manageable without the temptation of other people. Now this new person had shown up, and the urge to simply transform was too great. Spinning around Lazarus turned to face the  man, with wrench in hand, and swung his arm erratically, catching the man on the side of the head and sending him to the ground. This was his opportunity to make an escape before Eversor took over completely. Running over to a wall, Lazarus pushed up from it, the claw like fingers of Eversor affording him a grip as he quickly scaled the wall like a nightmare creature. At the top Lazarus stopped and sank to his knees, feeling the crimson flame inside his left eye ignite. There was no point keeping it closed- Eversor had nothing to hide.
As Lazarus' eye socket was filled with the crimson flame, his fingers continued to lengthen and sharpen,  his suit beginning to blacken, as though ink had been spilled on it. Finally, the tatty leath overcoat began to spread out, flowing behind Eversor in the wind, giving the appearence of wings. By the end of the process, the person who was once Lazarus had a distinctly demonic look. Eversor was free for the night, and hungry for blood.

(OOC: I should probably mention the whole thing of keeping the left eye closed is quite important. When it's closed either can pass for a normal person, as it diminishes all of the exaggerated and unnatural effects of Eversor/Artifex's appearence, but when open they are shown in the most exaggerated form. Also, the 'wings' aren't actually wings- just something for appearence)

Re: Breath of the Brewing Storm RP Thread

Jack walked down the street, tossing the coin he would need tomorrow.  "Tomorrow will be a long day..." he thought aloud...

=============================================
"I better not catch you cheating!!!" Jack and Vincent had said at once.  The game began, and Jack grasped the rules fairly quickly...after lossing three games...Vincent got frustrated.
"Ahhh, I lose again?!"  Vincent cried in anguish.  "And I only just taught you how to play...."
"Hmmmm, whatever bad luck caused you to lose your shirt is still with you..." at Jack's comment, the small crowd laughed.  "But, we need to offer the coin anyway...tell ya what.  Tomorrow at the dock, around mid day, well have this 'Davy Back Fight' you wanted."  Vincent accepted Jack's deal.  The time was set, and many of the crowd had said they wanted to watch.  Now that they knew who these people were...Vincent the rebel tactician...Jack the genius captain...they wanted to see who would come out on top.
============================================
Although, I was just lucky... Jack thought, still flipping the coin.  He happened to look up, looking for the stars...when he saw a black shadow up on top of a building.  Only, it wasn't a shadow...there was a glowing orb in it, and that orb turned.  Now, what Eversor saw when he looked at Jack was a white coat, emblematic of his opposite.  He sought to destroy it and cried out "ARTIFEX!!!" as he leapt from the roof.  Jack jumped back, and drew his cutlass.  No hesitation this time.  This guy wanted blood.  Eversor charged, and Jack jumped out of the way.  The fight went on for a while.  Jack was barely able to defend himself against this dark robed monster...untill he scratched Jack's pocket open, and the tuning fork fell, letting out a pure, musical tone.  Eversor held his ears, unable to face such musical power.  This allowed Lazurus to control his other half.  Jack picked up the tuning fork as Lazarus closed his left eye, and secured his eye patch again.
Jack looked to the tunning fork, "What's this?" he asked aloud...

"HAH! The game-boy (OOC: Braan will call everyone boys/girls until they prove their worth in battle, then he calls them "Young (wo-)man!", since he is 87 years old) left before I even answered his question! Ah, the damned belt! I must have pedaled the kiddieboat for days! And the stupid fishies trying to gobble me up! KYE FWE FWE FWE FWE! WHAT AN ADVENTURE!" Braan slapped his thigh repeatedly, almost breaking the floorboard under his foot.

Re: Breath of the Brewing Storm RP Thread

Lazarus snatched the tuning fork and dropped it in his pocket, along with the others.
'It's nothing. Now get lost, and tell no one what you saw here.'  he snarled, walking quickly away as once again he felt the pull of Eversor. The effect of the music had been unexpected, and might have been of some use if it weren't for the fact that it had no effect until he became Eversor, at which point music was impossible.
That fight had sated the beast for a while, but even as Lazarus hurried down the back alleys of the town, he could feel the hunger again, and knew Eversor would have to taste blood before he settled down tonight...

Re: Breath of the Brewing Storm RP Thread

(OOC: Even though I have a beard in RL, Erik doesn't have one.)

- Stars appeared around Erik's head as he stood up. "Damn... Bastard's gonna pay for that..." He licked his lip and tasted his own blood. "...I gotta be more careful, that guy doesn't hit like a normal person. He's a lot stronger..." Erik cracked his neck as he stood up and laid his massive tool over his shoulders. "But then again, I'm not weak either." Tightening his grip on his weapon/tool, Erik began to stray from his plans for the night. There was something on the loose. Something that needed to be stopped, or at least contained.
- Don't misunderstand Erik, he's not doing this for "the public good." He's doing this so that damned thing doesn't sneak up and murder him in his sleep. He's seen things like that happen far too much to just let it slide. Suddenly, a faint music note could be heard from down the street. "Wait a second..." Erik thought a little. "....A.... A sharp.... Wait a second, A sharp! That was the fork I gave to Jack!" Erik took off down the street to where the sound originated, only to find Jack with a torn coat, cutlass in hand, and a confused expression on his face. Erik skidded to a stop. "What happened?" Jack just looked back and said, "I have no idea." He then continued to explain things as he remembers them, and finishes with "...and I don't even know where the little metal thing came from!"
- Erik just laughed. "Yeah... I put it in your pocket. It was meant to be a signal of sorts. I put it in your pocket so you could find me later. I had no idea that it'd stop whatever the hell that guy was." Jack just looked around. "I'm glad it did, though. That guy would have killed me without a second thought, but that's only if he beat me." He laughed nervously. Erik sighed, shaking his head. "I plan on stopping that thing before someting bad happens." He reached into his pocket, pulling out another tuning fork. "Here. This one's an F sharp. Don't worry, I have a ton of 'em." Jack just gave Erik a funny look. "What? I use 'em to test the resonance of the ships I help build. Anyway, take it. You'll need it." Before Jack could ask how the hell he was supposed to use a freaking TUNING FORK to get ahold of him, Erik disappeared down an alley, ready for a fight.

Re: Breath of the Brewing Storm RP Thread

OOC: sorry i havent posted recently guys, i was kinda busy this week...
OOC 2: somewhat near the beginning of the RP, Fuuma posted that his character had heard of Rise somewhere. Just so everyone knows, no one is supposed to know about Rise's DF, as she tries to keep it a secret.

IC: "Mind if I keep this blanket?" Rise asked the bartender.
"Not at all," Smokey replied. Rise thanked him, wrapped the blanket around herself, and left the tavern. Not seeing the others, she ran to a nearby inn and entered.
"Back so soon, Miss Rise?" asked the innkeeper.
"Yes, but I will be leaving tomorrow," Rise answered. She walked down the hall to her right and into the first door she came to. She lay down on the bed and covered herself with the lanket, soon falling asleep.
