Personally I think you've gone a little overboard on the blending options there. tongue But still, I suppose thats a good way to get acquainted with whats there. I would also suggest that you use more subtle colors, but that may not be necessary depending on how complex the finished image get. Keep it up.

Tried that. I think it looks better, I changed the text color away from the backgrond color but to keep it from looking pixelated I gave it a glow, so It looks like I'm still going overboard on the blending... anyways heres the update:

Re: Photoshoped artwork (56k warning)

Photoshop is so much fun. I only wished my artistic side wasn't retarded.

My first ever photoshop created sig:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v378/stabinbac/DoomSig7copy.jpg

I spent so much time messing around with ways to lighten his skin a little. The hard shadow under the the arm was a real pain. I think it turned out quite nice.

I also did my current sig. It used to have "Stabinbac" on it, but the mushi luv obviously has higher priority.

Crossbones created this. He kicks so much ass when it comes to artistic stuff.

I darkened it into this. CB's version was just too white to use as a background.

I tend to do nicely working over someone else's work.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v378/stabinbac/Marines.png
That was a fun one. I chose reference art from all sorts of sources and did some crazy tracing. I'm not very artistic, so even that took forever.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v378/stabinbac/MarinesImages2.png

My latest insanity:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v378/stabinbac/v3.png

It's missing the clouds, but the only easy to access version I have with clouds right now has a giant bright pink "HAPPY BIRTHDAY". The stick man is scanned in, but everything else was created with simple round brushes.

Oh, and:

PANTSU HAT!!!!!!

Re: Photoshoped artwork (56k warning)

Good to know I'm not the only one who likes just using brushes(well not just, but kinda throwing things together) to make art. the hill looks great but the sun seems out of place, and on top of the hill.

I could never make any of the other stuff from scratch. At the very least I need sometihng to work with. I'm also not too patient, and alot of the stuff I need has a deadline thats close, not that I set deadline I basically just need it NOW whenever it is.

Any good tutorials for learning how to do some easy-to medium features, and from there medium? I can easily do things like Stabinbac's current signature, doing everything from the extracted Mihawk to the I Love Mushi!!!! background, no problem. It's stuff that looks like it was done with CGI and from 3D models that I can't do, but really want to.

Re: Photoshoped artwork (56k warning)

www.tutorialman.com. Easy
www.Shiver7.com. Medium ( But apparently dead. Dam)
www.phong.com. Hard

www.pixel2life.com. Mixed. Excellent resource for basically everything that can be tuted.

And you not alone with the brushes on by a long shot. Most of the sigs on the first page have Backgrounds that are made through extensive brushing. Once you figure out how to change the brush tip shape to custom or downloaded patterns, your options increase exponentially.

Stabinbac - Your stuff is actually really not bad at all. Each thing you posted seems to be just one step short of really good. The first sig only need a little more contrast and some minimal text effects, you done good on crossbones stuff, that montage one is incredibly original and cool yet lacks a certain sleekness, and even your pantsu Hat images have a really good almost cell shading thing going on in the hill (you got the layers of colors perfect!).

Keep it up!

Paint?! Wow, you are the Zen master. That wanted poster one has some real potential for Photoshopping. It looks pretty nice already, but photoshop could make it completely kickass - real potential. Pity its SPOILERIFIC!!!!

Re: Photoshoped artwork (56k warning)

no it's not. It uses a Sanji wanted poster that came with a collectable figure, the entire crew has them.

It's only spoilers, or rather only would be if he used Sanji's real poster, which is ugly.....

Speaking of which mind if I use the Wanted Poster idea, and animate it with more people? that'd be fun.

I thought about it, making sigs I'm not gonna use improves my skill, but its not really getting anything accomplished... so I came up with something the get something accomplished and teaches me photoshop at the same time: Making winamp skins

Heres my main window outline:

Re: Photoshoped artwork (56k warning)

I would like to start off this post with an apology for double posting, but if I edit this topic will stay dead and no one will see the work I created and would like criticism on.

I have been playing around with effects to make things look glassy, as seen in my sig, and I decided to put scenery in the orbs. Blown up these look sub-par but when shrunk down to sizes that they may be used for as buttons or some such, I think they looks quite nice. Any tips would be appriciated.

And so here are my four "Orb-erys" as I like to call them, in their 400x400 original states and in their 100x100 shrunk states:

Link due to huge image

Personally I am fond of the last one. I like that lake as some of you may remember as it in my sig until christmas. The first and third also turned out ok, but the second looks a little pixleated to me even when shrunk, anyone have any suggestions on how to fix that? (I took the screencap myself so getting a better quality one would mean... getting a different scene)

Again, sorry for the double post. This is the first time I have made one and hopefully the last.

Re: Photoshoped artwork (56k warning)

Well, I finally made something worthwhile posting. In my opinion, it's actually good. Since my holiday break is about to end, I won't be needing my oh-so-cute Merry Christmas Signature for a while. To replace it, I made this,

Comments, please. On how I can make it better.

Re: Photoshoped artwork (56k warning)

How is it that everyone get their sigs backgrounds to have a semi-messy look, but not just look like random brushes? My freind had some wallpapers he made that looked like that and when I asked him all he would say is "Layers" but thats not much info, what do I put on the layers? How many Layers?

It actually would be really cool of someone to upload a PSD of a finished work that I could pick apart, that would help me learn some of this stuff.

Re: Photoshoped artwork (56k warning)

Ok I've had it. I think later today I'll cut off a piece of my colored manga to show it.

PS: is there any way togive a small bit a "shiny" and almost 2d, but still 2d-ish effect, so it looks lke a realistic diamond, but still looks colorful and not too realistic? like a cartoony but realistic diamond?

Well, I usually make my backgroud black and then set the brush colors to white. I usually only use 1 layer for the background since I'm too lazy to make 6+ layers just for a background tongue After you get the background that seems nice, you could copy the background layer and set the copied layer to Filter>Blur>Gaussian Blur>3.0 and set the copied layer blending option to "Overlay" After that, you could use the "Levels", "Curves", or "Color Balance" to set up the color of your sig. Of course, if you want more than 1 color on your sig, you could use "Gradient". That should be enough for the basic background. Of course, you don't have to do exactly what I said, you could always mix stuff up and try something new like me tongue

Here's the PSD files you might want. It should be pretty simple since I don't use a lot of layers. tongue

PSD 1

PSD 2

Re: Photoshoped artwork (56k warning)

Thanks for the tips Zaiken they seem to be working well, however the PSD's you uploaded will not download for me. Megaupload tells me the souce could not be "read" or something to that effect.

EDIT: it seems megaupload just didn't like me for that 30 second period because I tried again and they downloaded fine. However now photoshop is the program that hates me because it's saying they are not vailid PhotoShop Documents...

Weird... Wonder why it says that. I don't think version of the Photoshop matters with the PSD files...
