I like your orbs DB (and I've always liked all your stuff Zaiken). I reckon you can still make them a little better though.
1) Grab the brush tool with the color of the orb, brush mode on Linear Dodge (all hail the linear Dodge) and opacity about 30%. Brush a circle in the bottom middle of the orb. Then repeat but slightly smaller. Do this till you get a nice bright glow in the bottom of you orb. It should give it some depth and an illusion of backlit semitransparency.
2) (this ones a gem
) Select the orb (Ctrl+Click the layer thumbnail) and create a new layer above the orb one. Then with the marquee (selection) tool selected, right click within the selection and select stroke. 1px (or more depending on the resolution of the image), Inside, black. With the selection still active, go Filter>Blur>Gaussian Blur. Use the preview to adjust accordingly. You'll see what I mean ![]()
I haven't done much lately but I did do a few Background images for my PSP. As follows...

If you want I can post a step-by-step tutorial on how I made any one of my sigs, if you interested.
Oh wait, that reminds me - its the new year. Better get back to work!
And Thanx for reviving the thread ![]()

Oh and a good place to download brushes to make your background nice, you could go to deviantART
If you like those messy type backgrounds, they're called Grunge. There are a lot of Grunge type brushes so you could go look through here
EDIT: Uploaded some Tutorials that I had on my laptop, it helped me a lot getting used to Photoshop. You could get it here

I actually did do a gaussian blur on my orbs, you can't really tell when I put stuff in them. I didn't do it quite like you said so I'll try your way and try your step one to see what I like. And as for reviving the thread, I'm just glad no one yelled at me for double posting. ![]()
Zaiken: Thanks for your tutorial and the brushes, I really am liking the grunge brushes, I downloade3d three different sets. ![]()
EDIT: wow Zaiken, I figured it was 2 or 3 tutorials but 28? You just go all out don't you? I may just be able to learn something if I have 28 chances to do it.

It's just the tutorials I had
Each of them should teach something different, so it's all good ![]()

I've only been glanceing at them but I already lerned 2 new things. Also most of the grunge brushes I downloaded arn't compatable with my version of photoshop (7.0). Anyone know where I can get 7.0 brushes?

Offline
you know, I really should start checking if a website has a serch bar before I ask stupid questions. Anyways thanks for the link, I'll have a half-way decent sig by the time the week is out if I continue improving my skill at the rate I have been for the last 2 days.
EDIT: With the knowledge gained from those tutorials and the grunge brushes I managed to make a sig I think looks a bit closer to professional:
Its fairly good if I do say so myself. The only thing I'm not overly fond of is my border, but I do like how it faids out in the lower left hand corner.

Nicely done, but it seems a little too empty on the left side. Not bad though, I kinda like how it seems like it's 3D but with grunge mixed into it.

Offline
As for the emptyness, I was going to put my name there but I didn't like the way it covered her face (on the blown up pic of her)...
I guess I'll just have to try some different things, I want a different border on it anyways, So I'm still working on it.
EDIT: I did just that. I made a "grungey" border (You can't really tell its there if you haven't seen it without a border at all) and put my name in to try to fill the left side. It still feels empty though...

I guess this is the right place to ask for help with my latest piss-about. I've taken to getting a photo of one of my friends and trying to basically re-draw it using photoshop (no tablet) by using the pen tool to do borders and basic lines then using the smudge tool for shade etc. Anyway, I can't seem to get the eyebrows right, they just keep coming out looking like angry caterpillars >_< Does anybody know how I can make them look more human? Thanks in advance.
P.S. I totally love some of the stuff in here. You guys have inspired me to make a new sig =O

Well, about that, when you copy the render and make it large and then make it fade away like how you did on that sig, you don't always have to put the whole picture of her faded. You could put part of her picture on the background and make it fade away instead of the whole thing. If you do that, you'll have space to put other things on it ![]()

I'm not sure about drawing from scratch without a sketch and stuff, but if you had a sketch or used the photo you have and draw on top of it with pen tool, then it's called Lineart I believe. You could get it deviantART just type Lineart on the search button and you'll see like 100+ tutorials for it XD

It's not bad bad to leave your sig empty sometimes, but I think you should try to make your sig match the render you're using more. I'm sure you'll get better though
Even a kid like me can use Photoshop.

I made another one:
Question: How do you make that transparent-like text in the background

Opacity. Also if you want to be able to edit your text (As in delete parts of it or run filters on it) you have to click your text layer and click rasterize.

Hey silk, I'm intereste din learning how to make nice Earths like that.
Also yeah, brithday today so I have an excuse to be lazy for a couple more days before getitng back to true photoshopping.

I've been playing with the grunge brushes, I thought maybe I should try a 200x100 mini-sig? So I did that:
I think it came out well. Then I wanted to try another mini-sig with Sora, but It isn't quite as good...
Then I went back to real sized sigs. I thought about a bigger border, but I don't really like what I came up with:
I think that Etna sig is one of the best sigs I've made in photoshop, what do the rest of you think?

In Ultimate Spider-Man issue #100 they included some cover sketches that were never used. I thought they were good so I decided to ink and color one of them in Photoshop.
See results below....
This is the original sketch by Mark Bagley.
The inks.
And finally some color.
I'm quite pleased with how this turned out. Though I'm already starting to see some things I'm not quite happy with.

Very nice job, it looks like a real comic book coloring.very nice cleaning and overall good job on the artwork. And this is coming from someone who isn't big on the whole super heroes thing(unless you count City of Heroes)

If you ask em they are coming along nicely. The mistakes in the top one have been noticed and fixed. The font is a placeholder, so the Old English might go for something else. Opinions?
Offline
I'm not really good at choosing fonts but I don't think you should have used that Old English text, I think they're kinda overused. Try going to Da Fonts they have a lot of nice looking fonts ![]()

Offline
Overused? I've only seen it in 3 places before, one of them being why I got it in the first place, Death Note....
Any suggestions for the exact font? I kinda suck at fonts.
EDIT: Checke out the site, immidiatly went to comics. each font looked good, well not each, but alot looked good. I finally went with the Yikes! font, I think it'll be fine.
Now I'm gonna end up downlaoding like a billion fonts from that site. thanks, hehe.

Yeah, since Old English is a font that comes with the the computer and it looks nice, a lot of people use it. Especially on books and stuff. That's why I said I think they're kinda overused
and grats for finding a nice font ![]()

Thank you, DB
Anyways, I got around to revising my earlier Nami sig: I added the opacitized (is that a word?) lettering and it looks pretty cool, if I say so myself.
and this one just for fun*
