Yeah, well you wouldn't beleive how hard it was to get old engish mt text. All of them were items to be bought. I finally found a free pack that had like 5 versions.

SH Archaeologist: Your sigs are improving. Keep working at it. The iZoro one was funny.

Jan_Panda: Nice job on the coloring. The cleaning looks really good as well.

Benign: I'm liking the Etna one. Play with those grunge brushes some more wink

Silk: That Earth one is kickass, man.

How do you blend the character into the background?

Re: Photoshoped artwork (56k warning)

I tweeked my Etna Sig from this:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v200/Wizardjjm/Etna.jpg

Into this:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v200/Wizardjjm/Etna2.jpg

I think its an improvement, how about the rest of you?

SHA: Opacity again, transparency is almost always done with opacity.

Re: Photoshoped artwork (56k warning)

Yeah, I did the Opacity thing, but what I mean is not the whole character, but the edges of the character here's an example:
http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m194/mnkybusiness212/cloudsig7yn.jpg
The edges are blurred slightly into the light background, how do you get that effect?
EDIT:
DB: I think it looks cool, but it also gets a bit harder to read.

The first version's text was easier to read, but the second version doesn't have the flare in the background, which seems to make the background better. Try a mixture of the two for a V3, perhaps?

Well, first of all I use a Wacom tablet with Photoshop. It's so much more intuitive than a mouse when it comes to stuff like this. The presure sensitivity VERY useful.

As for technique.  I start by putting in the flat base colors. After that a create a new layer and add the highlights with a blurry brush at low opacity. I usually use a light yellowish color for this and then make it blend in with the base colors later by tweaking the layer blending settings and playing with the hue.
I start by giving the required areas a very faint highlight and then go over that with a low opacity brush to intesify it in the right places.  Took me a while to get the hang of it, but once you got it down it's real easy.
Same story for the shadow areas, although i didn't use those in this piece.

Actually, that about sums it up.  If you're interested here's a sped up video of me coloring. I tried recording the process as an experiment. In real-time coloring took me about an hour and a half.

Re: Photoshoped artwork (56k warning)

V3:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v200/Wizardjjm/Etna3.jpg

Now you can read it and theres no background flare.

SHA: theres a number of ways to do that, personally I Ctrl-click my render layer, go to select<feather, set it to about 3, go to select<inverse, then hit the delete key. That will only work if the only thing on your render layer is your render (unless you want everything on the layer to fade, then its fine).

Also, make sure your render layer is the active layer when you hit the delete key or your going to delete everything on your selected layer.

EDIT: I know how to spell flare, I swear!

Re: Photoshoped artwork (56k warning)

Thanks Silk, the one thing that helped my art more than anything else was constructive criticism. Sure tutorials and PSDs to pick apart help but if no one can tell me I'm doing something wrong I'll probably keep doing it wrong.

I find that one of the hardest things for me is cutting out my renders (I take all my screencaps myself), but that probably is due to the fact that I use a trackball mouse. I need a wireless to switch to for when I photoshop...

It really doesn't matter what mouse you're using if you use pen tool to render things tongue I used to use the eraser tool to render before I found out how to do it with pen tool.

Re: Photoshoped artwork (56k warning)

I was really liking my Etna sig (so much so that its now my sig) so I decided to try another of the same style, I went with 2x2=sinobuden. however the render I went with is a bit... small, but when I was going to resize it I thought I kind of like it that way. Anyways here it is:

Re: Photoshoped artwork (56k warning)

I like the Etna sig more tongue I like how you could see that girl's face on the left side of your new sig. Maybe it's just me but I don't think red and black really matches that render on your new sig.

Re: Photoshoped artwork (56k warning)

Ive only had photoshop for a few weeks now... not even a month. But I've been going crazy creating new sigs whenever I get the chance and trying to improve my skills.
Got a question for the experts out there:
How do you make your backgrounds? They're really good!

Anyway here is some of my sig work which some of you have already seen:
http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q206/xAtikAx/hitsu.jpg
My first sig made using photoimpression, of hitsugaya
http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q206/xAtikAx/10.gif
http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q206/xAtikAx/Garaasig.jpg
Second sig, first one i got off www.narutocentral.com and didnt make.
The second one Is the edited version I made using photoshop not much difference i know.
http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q206/xAtikAx/GarfieldSigcopy.jpg
My current signature, I kept it simple.

I havent finished this last one yet and im still working on it but I thought I'd post it up to see what you guys think of it so far and will be appreciated.

Re: Photoshoped artwork (56k warning)

That original Hitsugaya one you did was not bad at all (although needed a different font). Same problem with the one you ripped off - not font doest really match at all (close but no). You Garfield is nice smile but looks a little familiar...tongue

You last one there is the best by far (barring the original Garra one tongue) but please, ues the type tool, not the pencil tongue. Also, it needs a bitta this, but your definently onto something there.

As a side note your Hitsugaya request is done.

Re: Photoshoped artwork (56k warning)

Lol my bad, didnt realise the garfield one was similar to one of yours but youve got a point they are alike. I should point out that, im not sure why but, the last sig looks a little different here compared to on my laptop. The lines should be straight, the writing should be clear and the faces shouldnt be that... munted.... maybe I should resize it before posting it up again. But oh well thanx for the feedback and thanx again for the sig big_smile

Re: Photoshoped artwork (56k warning)

Thanks Silk with the help on the masking. I'm working on a Negima signature with Negi, so this'll be interesting, and thanks for the help!

In the mean time I did this thing....Don't yell at me because it's amateur I had 30 mins in school and I was bored and they only had Photoshop 7.0

Re: Photoshoped artwork (56k warning)

I brief, get a border, don't go so overboard on your contrast (you need at least one image with some detail), more complexity/variety/depth to your brushwork, change the font/size/layout/color of your name, keep working on the giant eyes, and for gods sake use a different title font!!

Otherwise good.
