Hey, does this thread have anything to do with H264 files? I have some files in that format, but bt I want to convert them to AVI. Anyone know how to do this.

The guide should work with H264.

Can someone help me out with the settings? I'm really no technical-wizzkid or whatever when it comes to computers, but the thing is that all of my favorite shows (One Piece, Naruto, Bleach, Soul Eater and Prince of Tennis for instance) are being encoded into formats that are not supported by either PS3 or Xbox360. So I hoped I could use this guide to re-encode all the newly downloaded and PS3/X360 unsupported episodes into Xvid encodes that are quality-wise equal to the source (filesize doesn't really matter to me). But the guide already mentiones that this doesn't give you KF quality but I couldn't find my way/answers on Doom9.net. So I hope that anyone who has knowledge of this can help me out setting up the program. Thanks in advance!

Currently you can not re-encode without lost in quality, this may change in the future. Of course by then we'll probably have flying cars and we'll have colonized Mars and have computers that'll think for them self etc...

If you want quality that equals the source then ripping, encoding and subbing it your self is the only option.

The lost in quality after encoding is barely noticeably but then again it's coming from a guy who can't tell the difference from FLAC and MP3.

Just follow the guide and adjust the XviD slide bar (1 for highest quality - 31 for smallest file) for your desired taste.

Re: X264 to XviD Encoding Guide (for slow computers or standalone players)

Thanks very much for this guide. I now after a few difficulties am able to remove the pesky X/H.264 codec.

Main problems were dead links. Here are some updated ones.

VIRTUAL DUB 1.8.8: http://sourceforge.net/project/download … =internode
(also to the "[Quantization] tab" is now accessed by pressing the bottom [more...] button on the configuration page)
[Edit] Also ensure that you untick packed bitstream in XviD configuration

LAME MP3 ACM CODEC: www.free-codecs.com/download/LAME_ACM_Codec.htm

AVISYNTH 2.5.8: http://sourceforge.net/project/download … a=43087069

Koepi's XviD Codec 1.2.1: http://www.free-codecs.com/download/Koepi_XviD.htm

Other than that, all good!

Re: X264 to XviD Encoding Guide (for slow computers or standalone players)

Spoke too soon sad
I've successfully encoded it with XviD as the codec (verified through "stream and media info" on VLC media player) but still no video on my dvd player, only audio

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Just so you know, you've just lost all points scored with your last post. Now that you're back to neutral I don't need to... well you know.

Read the previous page, the answer is there.

Re: X264 to XviD Encoding Guide (for slow computers or standalone players)

I'm pleading for help here.. I'd glady help anyone with their problems if I were able to..
Note my previous post that attempts to save people from reading through a thicket of posts  to save themselves from "you know" from someONE

Honestly, you think I didn't have the brains to read the PREVIOUS page to try solve my own problems and save hassling someone else..

Previous post: [Edit] Also ensure that you untick packed bitstream (guessing this is what you were referring to yes?) in XviD configuration

I'm guessing thats what you were referring to.. it still didn't work sad
I'm TERRIBLY sorry if the answer is somewhere within this laborious 23 page thread and I happened to have missed it

So please help, then if the time arises where someone else is struggling through this I can help them too..

Are you implying that I just bitch at everyone who's looking for help? Cause you know, thats true, god you don't know how true that is.

Anyway if you followed the guide and have packed bitstream un-ticked then it should work unless you don't have a MediaTek based DVD player and have quarter pixel selected, in this case untick quarter pixel as well.

If you already have it unticked then you'll need to take screenshots of your XviD settings. Zip them up and upload it to sendspace, rapidshare, megaupload ....etc

The following settings will produce a nice-looking video, but not on the level of a K-F release.  Anyone interested in using advanced encoding techniques should read the guides and forums on Doom9.net.

Hi I really love the quality that you guys put out and I'm very interested in encoding videos that are like you said on the level of a K-F release.

As a result of this I followed the link that you suggested and I found this:

http://www.doom9.org/gknot-main6.htm

If you don't mind me asking and hopefully is not some sort of trade secret (if it is I understand).

Is this the approach that you guys usually go through to produce your great MP4 with x.264 releases?

This one uses Gordian Knot. Or o you prefer that MeGUI software.

Note that I'm more interested in producing the X264 than re-encoding it into XviD.

Thank you,

And that picture is about as helpful as a light switch in a blackout!
