finally its about time

Offline
Saw this earlier, looking good!
Your damn right it's about time! Not much to say about this really...

If that's the case, I might start buying the manga beyond volume 1 and 2, which I have now.

Sounds like a strange release schedule, why did they wait so long to publish #24 and now rush them out 5 a month?
Getting five new volumes a month is a nice thing though, at my place it's slowed down to maybe one volume every 3 months now since they reached the Thriller Bark arc. Is that about the release rate in Japan or what might be the reason?

Also saw this a while back. I'm definitely going to buy all the volumes they release. I just hope they don't do too much censoring ![]()

I'm kind of iffy on the Viz releases, just because I know they tend to censor some stuff and followed a lot of the 4Kids name scheme.
Could anyone who's read several of them talk explain how good/bad it is?

I haven't noticed any censoring at all, and the only 4Kids name change I remember is Zolo. Sure, they could add a few more curses here and there, but honestly it's an entertaining and faithful adaptation.

just when I started collecting the Dutch releases (which are at volume 8 right now and release 1 volume every two months) Guess I'll have to switch over to the Viz releases if they don't censor/change that much....
Offline
I had heard that they were going to start accellerating the releases in fall, but january isn't that bad. I was half expecting them to bitch out and drop the acceleratin altogether.
Offline
You're partly right Dragonrider. They'll be running the latest (what that means exactly they haven't said) One Piece chapters in Shonen Jump in the fall. And everybody is right, it's about damn time!
Offline
Yeah, I got an email from them about that about a month ago. I guess I misread and thought that they were pushing that part of it back to january...

anyone care to share their experience with the Viz release of the manga? (currently released volumes / chapters in SJ) How's it translation wise? Any graphical edits/censoring? Attacknames/names/islandnames etc still intact? How did they handle the Nami-san/swan part?

Well, Viz does fuck around with the chapters in the magazine. They cut out most of the title pages, so it seems like there is only chapter. It also makes readers wonder, "Okay, how the fuck did Hachi get from rescuing the mermaid to beating the shit out of a bunch of fishmen?" Personally, I think it might be added incentive to buy the collected volumes.

Well I own books 1 - 3 and book 9, its pretty much faithful to the story expect for the Zolo thing. I already know that I'm planning to aleast buy Volumes 46 - 53 when they come out. Since I really want to own Thriller Bark. I'm planning to get Water 7 and Enies Lobby later on. ^_^

In the beginning of the East Blue, the translations come off as kinda corny, and you can tell that some liberties were taken every once in a while, but after they enter the Grand Line it gets much better, to the point where you can now compare it to Stephen's translations and they'll match up almost exactly, the only difference being more colloquial dialogue, since Stephen's is somewhat flowery. The only problem I have with their translations is, as said above, a little harsher language would be nice, and I find it odd that they balk at saying ''damn'', yet have no problems with throwing ''crap'' around. Some minor terms are a bit off, but most of them are good.
They do censor a few things in the chapters when they appear in the magazine, but all of the art in the actually volumes is left alone, minus the Loguetown sign, which was changed to Roguetown. Yes, even Ace's manji is left alone.
So yeah, I find the manga to be a lot better than most will have you believe. I'd say go for it.

Okay, I'm a little late saying this, seeing as I got the newest issue of SJ a week ago, but Alabasta is going to be over in the September issue. This is when I think they're going to start their arc-skipping. And SJ usually keeps the series that they're skipping out for an issue or two, meaning that we'll be getting the latest chapters in SJ in either the october issue or the november issue. I'm hoping that it will be in the october issue because I want to see this sooner, but I am gueesing that they will put it back into the magazine in the november issue since they will probably need 2 issues to cover 30 skipped volumes....
Also, it would be really cool if it was in the november issue because my birthday is in october, which is when it gets released!

The latest chapters will start in the January 2010 issue.

That's not all. In the January issue of Shonen Jump Magazine, we'll jump ahead those 30 volumes to the start of the Impel Down saga--a bold new storyline and a perfect time to launch into the One Piece manga.

Damn, there goes my estimation...
Well, at least this is the biggest skip they've TAKE THAT, NARUTO!

IMPEL DOWN ARC?!?!?! Wow, that really is a bold and ambitious move for Viz. I hope more people will start reading One Piece because of this.

They'd better... *Starts thinking malicious thoughts*

Everytime I think of this news, I get kind of giddy. This is some of the best news ever. ![]()

And I also agree that Viz could use harsher language. I mean, do they think that kids or kid's parents will have more of a problem with cursing than all the blood and violence? Also, now that FUNi has One Piece, I wish they would go back to Zoro like they originally had it in the early days. But other than that, the Viz manga is great.

Yeah, the pseudo-swears piss me off as well. I mean, it's supposed to be a T rated series. I think they can say damn...

So I was lovingly guided here by Manaka (from here http://www.kaizoku-fansubs.com/forum/vi … p?id=11267) and I'm here to dig up any feedback you guys may have on the VIZ site, or any manga related things that you guys would like to see in the future. Currently there are a bunch of things that have already been decided, but its nice to hear what other One Piece books you would like offered here in the states.
- Colorwalk 2? Profile Books Red, Blue and Yellow?
What other exclusive info you would like us to feature on onepiece.viz.com?
-I'm shooting for an manga previews of every volume, but do you guys even care?
-Maybe an "Ask Oda sensei" section?
Or my ultimate dream of bringing Oda and his cute wife and daugther over here for a con. XD In which case he will probably visit the office and I will just die!!!
