Hello,
Just wondering if someone could help me out in regards to what source Kaizoku-Fansubs use.
I was always under the impression that K-F only used dvd as their source, however I recently looked at their sub release info on anidb and accoring to it they actually use a mix of sources. According to anidb:
eps 1-208 are dvd - 209-230 are a mizture of dtv and hdtv - 231-260 are dvd - 261-298 are hdtv
So how come so many different sourcesa are used? Did I really read somewhere that K-F want to eventually release all eps dvdrip or am I loosing my mind?
Thanks

1-10 were released with DVD rips from crappy Hong Kong bootlegs
11-206 were released using real Japanese DVD rips
207+ started the widescreen episodes on TV
The DVDs were still fullscreen and cut the sides off the picture. K-F decided having the full picture was worth using tv rips. Unfortunately they weren't HD widescreen.
Until...
261+ K-F managed to get full HD sources
1-5 have been redone using Japanese DVD rips and 6-10 redos are in the works.
207-209 have been redone using full HD sources, and 210-260 will probably be redone eventually. Definitely not a top priority so it'll take a long time.
So at 207 the TV episodes surpassed the quality of the DVDs, and there aren't blu-rays to get the episodes in any higher quality. K-F tries to use the highest quality source available.

Ahhh ok, I always just assumed that an anime as big as OP would have blu-rays.
Thanks for clearing that up

The DVD rips are 480 and avi
The SD widescreen TV episodes are slightly shorter to cut off the black bars on the top and bottom and in mp4
The HD episodes are 720p and mp4
There are avi encodes of the mp4 episodes here:

That's the only resolutions and formats we have around here.

Why would you want a matroska video file? It's just a container, it does not modify the file size itself. And K-F uses hard-subs (burned on or whatever), so you can't extract the subtitles.
