My take on the log pose is that there are "areas" in the sea where for some reason the pose doesn't point point toward the island it is locked on (as Luffy would probably put it, Mystery loss of signal). By having 2 other poses pointing towards other islands, you can choose to steer the boat towards a different island or use the relative positioning of the needles to keep the ship sailing steady enough till they get out of the signal-blocking part of the sea and the needle you want starts pointing towards the desired island.
I didn't quite like the way they explained the magnetic pull of the islands in the New World (kinda hoping it was poor translating). Much like the bounties, how much the log pose's needle shakes is an indicator of how bitchass crazy the route to that island is, but the way they talk about it (and even the DEATH island diagram) seems to indicate how dangerous the "island" is, which I hope sounds as absurd to you as it does to me.

Speaking of backtracking, I know Luffy & company promise to meet up again with friends left and right, but I wouldn't be too surprised if we saw Shirahoshi before Luffy becomes king.
She's an ancient weapon, after all. She's going to have to be important in the story later on.
Makes me wonder if we're going to see another huge collection of random past characters towards the end of the series, like with Impel Down.
Something I wish Oda hadn't done, actually, is having made Shirley Arlong's "sister". It felt more forced than necessary, and nothing ever came of that.
She wasn't even pissed that Luffy kicked his ass royally, you know?

I wonder if Eustass "captain" kids devil fruit ability screwed with his log pose and I really wanted that nod from jinbe and yeah from luffy to mean something more than a manly goodbye
Offline
How so? I thought that nod meant goodbye and "we'll meet up later"
I'm guessing Jinbei will be back in the picture around the same time the Straw Hats confront Big Mom, so that'll be awesome!
Offline
well kid has magnetic like powers just thought that it would mess up the log pose if he used his powers on his ship , jinbe did say he was going to leave big moms protection or something like that in that case the thousand sunny would be luffys flag ship and the sun pirates would be his 1st sqaud, and with luffy going "after" big mom makes sense because he pretty much headed after crocodile after entering the grandline and smoker tried stopping him in loguetown/alabasta so luffy should haki punch his face move on and find buggy as a shichibukai just typin shit now blahlbkhioet

Well apparently the log pose focuses on a specific magnetic field. Not that that's possible, but it's a manga so whatever.
Besides, Kid can just turn his ability off...
The problem now is that some of the islands turn the magnetic fields off, which I think supports the theory that Raftel will turn out to be an island without a (detectable) magnetic field.
Lol. The only reason Nami doesn't want to know which one is dangerous, is because she knows Luffy will always pick the dangerous route
. Wonder how Nami will deal with that.
Offline
kidd got to the half way point alright, it's safe to assume he can control his powers enough so a log pose wouldn't be affected, though 3 might be more difficult. and it is possible for something to focus on a specific magnetic point, provided it's powerful enough or something. i think that's part of how they use carrier pidgeons....or maybe that was an episode of fringe
Offline
why should we assume all of the rookies have the 3 log pose compass? maybe they haven't found out and are still navigating with a single log pose compass (just a thought...)
Offline
Actually we've never seen any other crew's log pose at all to this point, only eternal poses. This must mean that most crews have there's installed on their ship somewhere (probably close to the helm), which makes sense but begs the question of why someone as smart as Nami would carry it on their person considering the number of fights the crew get into if that thing breaks they'd be in trouble. Hell they broke their first one after getting it almost immediately. I guess she really doesn't trust anyone else there, not that I could blame her.

Chapter's out.
Talk about a Red Herring. But if that isn't Laboon, then who the hell is it?
Chopper: The sea looks red!
Sanji: A surging sea of flames.
Zoro: Looks like the entrance to hell.
Luffy: Perfect!

New Chapter out!

This was a classic chap. Very funny ![]()
But...sea of red flames? Smokey and tash probably went a bit overboard with the freed pirates. Here is hoping for a clash next chapter...tho a douzen of those island sized whales is prtty impressive even if youre smokey or tash.

I suspect the point of that whirlpool current was to move the Straw Hats off course just enough to prevent them from having to immediately encounter Smoker upon arriving in the New World.

So... then that's the "warp zone" of my dreams?
Has Luffy been playing too much Super Mario 3? Also, why is Franky still sporting the Stag Beetle hairdo? So many question that I'm not sure I want an answer to.

I was thinking the same thing when I read that part haha. And I was also thinking that Franky looked a bit like a viking with those Stag Beetle horns, which seemed fitting for an adventurer of the sea xD

I suspect this is what's happened too.
Another classically hilarious panel must be the reaction of Usopp, Sanji, Zoro and Luffy when Nami told them to cut the fish off! xD

Lots of hilarious moments with Luffy and Usopp. Smoker's still after them though.

Aokiji. Aokiji is on this island. I know it's early, but he's the only reason I can think as to why there is a cold spot on this...
Wait...
WAIT!!!
Is this the island where Aokiji and Akainu had their duel!?!?
edit: Also, does it seem like Iceberg is a little confused as to why his new secretary is only 10? Do we know her from somewhere?
edit2: Oh, whatever happened here happened "4" years ago. Guess I got a little too excited.

Let the 'dai bouken' resume!!
Punk Hazard...Former Marine Base? Former Marine Test Facility? Vegapunk? That's what I thought of then Luffy, Zoro, Robin and Ussop were at the entrance..
Always gota love how the crew interact with each other.

I had a similar thought too..

I believe that dragon is some very rare ancient zoan type devil fruit.
Edit : or maybe mythical zoan type devil fruit, like Marco

I feel strangely at home seeing them on actual land. That whole underwater thing threw me off a bit and might explain why I wasn't as keen on Fishman island as I thought I would be. Yes! More samurai! I'm a sucker for swordsmen.
I wonder if they'll acknowledge that filler arc with Apis and those dragons (if this actually is a honest-to-goodness dragon). I'm hoping they just pretend that never happened.

I think that dragon is a real dragon, not a devil fruit user.
Usopp cracked me up this chapter. "TRRAAADE WITH MEEEE" XD
Offline
I wonder if its a coincidence of this first appearance of the dragon in this chapter, since its the Year of the dragon.
