dythim, can you tell me what software you use to do X264 encoding? I would like to convert some of my other video to X264 but I don't know which software to use.
Thanks in advance!

Hello K-F TEAM !!!!
Yeah !! I Finaly got to encode x.264 to xvid with your super guide .
But since I have seen the result ( pixels and stuff ) I would like to know how I could get a nice-looking video like the level of the K-F release . I couldn't find where on doom9 to get the guide for advanced encoding techniques .
So I am asking in a polite way : Please help me for the "advanced encoding techniques" .
I'd be so cool ... You can explain me how to do it or just give me the exact link to it ^^.
THANKS K-F

I've got the following problem when I want to watch episode 166 with vlc 1.6.8.0.
First everything I've got is the voice and a black picture. So I stop the playing and start it again. After this I got the voice and the first picture of the episode (the flag) so I start it again, then I can see the film and hear the voice but the film is allways clogging (i hope this is the correct word I'm not good in english). So what can I do. I already got all the programs ffdshow, Haali's Matroska Splitter. And this vlc contains h.264 and x264. I really have no idea what the problem is.

Perhaps should think about installing the Combined Community Codec Pack. It plays everything I donwloaded so far including H264/x264. It can be found here:

Info on it here:

and there's an IRC channel for additional help:

i recommand this codec pack plays all file formats and u dont needa good computer for smooth playback

I finally got it to work! My computer wouldn't let me install ffdshow, but I restart it and it installed fine. Thanks for all the help dythim.

I already had ffshow or whatever it's called on my PC, and I just installed the x264 thing so I could play the .mp4s. It works fine, but I can't play it in full screen mode. Whenever I try it always resizes the window the original size. This is with WMP10. Should I completely reinstall ffshow ?

Hello. From what I've seen, it looks like dythim is using MPlayer to reproduce mp4 files, am I correct? I use the win32 release of mplayer, and I'm rather reluctant in sticking to another player. The problem is, the player hangs up after ~1-2 seconds of playback. I hear the music 'til it hangs, but there's no video (I tried episode 166. Since you didn't say much, I'm making a couple questions:
does mplayer need dshow filter, thus ffdirectshow and everything? I installed ffds, but still mplayer won't work.
if it works for you, what version of mplayer do you have?
did u put any extra filter in the \codecs folder?

I don't use mplayer for MP4
It has some compatibility issues with the sound extraction from an MP4.
mplayer I use for general AVIs that I watch, VLC I use for WMV and MOV files because Quicktime should die, and when I translate and need to seek and replay parts in a file I use WMP6.4.
Hopefully mplayer will improve compatibility ![]()

I see, I see... Thank you for the quick answer. Well, I guess I'm forced to use windows media player, for a while, then ![]()
The reason I can't survive without mplayer (other than it rocks, of course) is that I like to burn it along with my videos on my DVDs, so that with a small autorun program I can play a video on any machine with no stress, skipping the "install codec/reboot/pray" part.
Since the MPlayer staff seems to be idle lately, I guess I'll just try to bung the video stream into a matroska container...
Btw I think QT should explode right now me too ![]()
Well, thx ![]()

So yeah.. Is there a problem with full screen and WMP ?

No changes... mplayer still freezes. It must be some H264 decoding issue. Well, I really hope they're gonna fix it, whatever it is, or I'll have to re-encode everything ![]()
NeoChopper: I've just tried wmp, and I had no problems at all. The playback sucks up to 30% of my cpu, but I guess it's normal.
The quality is awesome
(how is it in jap, "tsukei"? :p )

Wow, simmer down there Potato man o_O Let's approach this with less violence, because baby chickens are fuzzy.
0) Have you checked the CRC of your file with QuickSFV?
1) What program is giving you the error?
2) Have you tried any other programs? Such as WMP6.4 or VLC.
3) Do you have any other codec packs besides ffdshow installed?
4) Do all of your other video files still play?
Deep breath, and then type in the answers to these questions.

Ok if you are like me and HATE ffdshow and how much cpu resources it takes to playback files than one alternative if you have Nero Recode is have these installed and your all set to go...
Xvid or DivX
Haali Media Splitter
x.264
CoreVorbis
Rename your player for example Media Player Classic from mplayerc.exe to recode.exe and you will now be able to use the much optimized nero digital codec and have very little cpu resources being used compared to ffdshow. My average cpu useage on my system is from 19-27% useage now versus the almost 80-90% that it was with ffdshow. System specks AMD 64 3000+, winxp 32bit, 1Gig Dual Channel PC3200 Ram, Geforce 6600GT, I can't promise as good of playback as my system but I myself gained back over 40% cpu useage on playback using this method vs FFDSHOW.
Now about the only other piece I install is VobSub 2.23 for my subtitles to show up on my secondary display my Tv only required for output to tv for subtitles.

My CPU ranges from the 30-40% range with ffdshow.

Just a note for linux users, VLC most work fine for most users, but if you have problems, or want to try mplayer out, i recomment this howto:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=85190
This will compile mplayer from CVS, the bleding edge version, and x264 works fine, thats what i use here to play the .mp4 files ![]()

I keep losing track of who's been helped and who hasn't x_x.
Who is still in need of support?

Alrighty, first the bad news. I have no clue what the "ATI File Player" is. The good news is that it sounds like a piece of shit.
Open up Start->Run, and enter this in the box which comes up:
C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player\mplayer2.exe
That will open up the program Windows Media Player version 6.4, or WMP6.4 for short.
Try to drag the file onto that window and see if it will play. If it does, excellent, and I will show you how to make MP4 files open with that program by default. If not... we'll try harder.

Comes with ATI video cards. Other than some really nice transparency features it's useless. The transparency stuff is really the only thing I miss. Been searching for another player that could do that (very little searching).

I've downloaded everything.
Multiple freakin' times.
Seriously, I'm at the end of my rope here. No matter what I do, I always get the same error message. It says, and I quote, "Couldn't open the file [K-F]_One_Piece_166_[60426ECF].mp4 because an unknown error occured. The number of the error is: -8971"
What should I do?

Jaga: My advice remains the same, try WMP6.4.
Greenfox: Sorry for the frustrations. You need to tell me:
1) What program you are using to play the video files which is reporting this error?
2) Do you have any other codec packs installed?
3) Do the other video files on your computer (AVIs) still work?

Offline
1. Currently using WMP, although 166 is saved as a Quicktime file.
2. I don't know. How would I go about checking that?
3. Every other OP episode (as well as Bleach and Sergeant Keroro) is working just fine.

wtf....i've set everything up, but media player classic still says it has an error...i need help..bad. and i still dun know what a codec pack is. can any1 tell me how i can know if a program is a codec pack or not?

kebochu:
Xvid, X264, and DivX are all "codecs". They each have their own decoder which is able to read files encoded in each codec (codec is a combination of the words "compress" and "decompress"). A codec pack is then, a program which contains several codecs, i.e. how ffdshow is able to decode XviD, DivX, X264, and a whole slew of other ones.
It's kind of hard to list all of the codec packs in the world, but all of your installed programs will be listed under Start -> Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs.
The ones I know of are Leo, K-Lite, ffdshow, CCCP, Nero. But hopefully if you have any others, it will say "codec pack" in the program name.
Smerph:
1) Try using WMP6.4 instead of the latest WMP (10 I think?). Quicktime may have registered itself to play .mp4 files, but you do not want it to. Click on Start -> Run, and enter this: C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player\mplayer2.exe After that, a window will pop up and you should be able to drag the MP4 onto it.
2) Check under Start -> Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs
3) Good.
