Kaizoku Fansubs / Forums

Following the release of One Piece 152, we passed the group which (to the best of my knowledge) had released the most episodes of a single series.

That was #anime-otakus doing Prince of Tennis.  They were at Episode 151 at the time (of course).

We've released more already as far as movies and TV specials go, but to even the playing field, we only counted the series episodes.

Although, on another note, they are still the longest running legal fansub.


Here are some other stats for people who are interested.

"Digitally" fansubbed means we release digital video files, playable on a computer.  As opposed to VHS fansubs from days long past.

I think the longest digitally subbed series overall, of multiple groups, is also Prince of Tennis, with three groups (#anime-otakus, #animerev and #Shinsen-Subs) whose combined episodes complete the series of 178 episodes.

The runner up in this category is Inuyasha.  Although many groups participating in fansubbing the series, the principle known subbers were #anime-kraze, who started at Episode 81.  The series stopped at Episode 167.

The longest fansub of a single series, to the best of my knowledge, was also coincidentally done by a single group.  That was the Sailor Moon VHS fansubs done by VKLL for all 200 episodes of the series.

Dragon Ball Z fansubs are disqualified for... having Korean subtitles.  And sucking.

Hong Kong DVDs are also disqualified because they charge money for their subtitles and are therefore not fansubs.

The current runners up are, of course, #anime-otakus for Prince of Tennis at Episode 157, and #AnimeOne for Naruto (boooo) at Episode 149.

Honorable mention is #anime-conan which fansubs Detective Conan and is still incredulously plodding along.  I think they are in the 90's or low 100's somewhere, but Detective Conan is already hundreds of episodes longer than One Piece.

And of course, there are series much longer than One Piece which are not currently fansubbed or licensed, including Doraemon, Sazae-san, and Kochira Katsushika-ku Kameari Kouenmae Hashutsujo.
