I was just about to say that the "no video stream" error indicates that you don't have a working H.264 decoder - i.e. ffdshow.
IMPORTANT NOTE: NEVER install BOTH CCCP and ffdshow/Haali AT THE SAME TIME! CCCP installs both ffdshow and Haali for you. Installing both CCCP and standalone ffdshow/Haali is a RECIPE FOR DISASTER, so don't do that. HOWEVER, if it ain't broke, DON'T FIX IT.

I'm thoroughly confused.. i downloaded and installed the two programs, ffdshow and Haali splitter, and i've tried to follow your directions. But this part here,
-Start C:\VirtualDub\VirtualDub.exe
-Make sure you have XviD installed.
-Open 162.avs in VirtualDub. You can use File->Open, or simply drag the AVS onto the VirtualDub window.
doesnt work... I dont even know what you mean by Start Start C:\VirtualDub\VirtualDub.exe... This file doesnt exist...
What am i doing wrong?

Have you installed virtualdub?
"-Download VirtualDub from this link: VirtualDub 1.6.11 (I didn't copy the link, so grab it from the first post)
-Extract the archive using a ZIP utility to C:\VirtualDub (or another directory of your choice)"
If you extract it to a different place it won't be located in "C:\VirtualDub\VirtualDub.exe", so it will have to be opened from wherever you put it.

Hi, I am having an audio problem. I downloaded & installed cccp and the other stuff, including lamemp3 and followed the directions to the letter.
However, when I converted file, the audio disappeared (actually, the audio was not processing at all during the save). The file itself did convert fine; just no audio.
Can you help me find out what the problem is?
Thanx ![]()

I have found another way to encode the mp4 files to avi files. In the first stage I downloaded ffdshow and Matroska Splitter. After this I used dvdsanta to convert the mp4 file into a dvd file but I didn't burn this to DVD. as I was prompted to do This DVD video file can be played with DVD player i.e WinDVD or other and can be converted to avi using a dvd ripper i.e. DVDX so you can play it on your DIVX or similar player.
Believe me, This method is working 100 %. I have reencoded all mp4 episodes to avi and the result is great!!!

I got a question: When encoding the audio to MP3, how can you tell that the audio has encoded properly?
Everytime I open the newly compressed .avi file, it says that the audio source is still "Input AVI File, AVI Audio Stream 1 [tag 0x0055 MPEG-Layer 3].
Am I doing something wrong?

Hmm, it appears for me that all 3 of the following links to downloads are broken: 'ffdshow 2005-10-15', 'Haali Splitter', and 'CCCP 2005-09-23'. I don't know if this is just happening to me, but if not, is there some alternative to getting these files?
Edit: Now that I go back and check, ALL the links are broken for me. So far googling these files has worked, though.
Edit #2: Eh, after trying to get all the files from google, I've come across a bunch of minor errors. Would just be a lot handier if links could be restored.

I bet the server has used up its bandwidth limit.
I'll use YouSendIt.
I can't send to your gmail account because it doesn't allow exes.
Or, if you can google for the exes yourself, I can send just the jpgs really easily.
For now, you'll be getting the YouSendIt link in your email soon.

Here's the YouSendIt link: http://s31.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=0XCS … QXFBEQ44EZ
And our webhost said we were getting too close to the bw limit for comfort, so he disabled it until the next period. It's re-enabled now, after negotiations.

I've mirrored what's on there, but i forgot to do the exe's so i've downloaded what i could from the web and put the files up. I too lazy to change the html tags so all the file in the htm web pages points to giggedygiggedygoo.com.

OK Virtualdub can't seem to pick up the new AAC encoding. When I try to save as wav... it says "No input audio stream". When I try to save avi, it converts, but the audio converting is alwasy 0/0 (i.e. virtualdub can't recognize). The .mp4 file works in MPClassic, is there some way to make virtualdub detect the audio in the file?
Offline
Hrm... not sure what you're trying to do.
are you using "DirectShowSource" in an AVS script? the guide doesn't mention using the Save WAV feature...

Offline
yea yea I am doing exactly like it says in the guide. It worked until you guys started using AAC. At first, I tried doing it like every other time, but the AVI produced was suspiciously small in size and I opened it to realize that there was no sound. I re-encoded, but you know when it's encoding how it shows you what video frame and what audio frame it's on? Well the video goes smoothly (x/xxx frames encdoded) but the audio just says 0/0 the whole time it's converting. To get around this, I tried to seperate the audio by saving as wav and encoding it that way, but when I tried that it said there was no audio source specified (this is when I loaded the episode using the .avs file) leading me to believe that VirtualDub can't recognize the audio that is in these new AAC encoded eps. BTW I installed the AAC Core (ran the .bat file and it said all went well) but to no avail.
Thanks for your time/consideration.

you've installed the AAC codec but have you rebooted the computer?

Hi I'm new here. First and foremost thanks for the work you guys have done so far. That was until you guys started using this new codec not that a have a problem with it but i do,i followed your guide as close to the letter as i could taking into consideration that some of the software and examples links are broken I say I've gotten very close but now I'm stuck again. I'm having an audio issue, virtual dud gives me this error.
"Error initializing audio stream compression:
The audio codec cannot compress the source audio to the desired format.
Check that the sampling rate and number of channels in the source is compatible with the selected compressed audio format."
I used the sampling rate you recomended if I chaged it virtual dub would crash and close. so if you guys could help i'd appreciate it if not is there anyone else subbing one piece besides you guys and (http://www.gerusama.com/) the last have hdtv releases but i cant find the episodes from when you changed codecs and the ones where they are at now.

I reencode so I can watch it on a standalone player and this guide works great. Had to compress the AAC to WAV with Lame MP3 though otherwise the file would be to large (470mb), result is 230mb.

I recently uninstalled all codecs, to try out a codec package to get a video from another site to work, and I don't have sound on the videos anymore. The .mp4 files that I converted to avi before has no sound now. Any idea which codec I need?
Offline
for those who have no audio after reencoding, try changing the setting for the cccp (audio decoders), check the aac and mp3 box.

I am also having trouble re-encoding ep 169 via the instructions on the first page. I can play the mp4's fine (even 169 with the aac audio) in VLC, BSPlayer, and even Windows Media Player Classic, but my PC is just too slow to keep up with it, so I can't really watch it that way anyways, so I have to convert these mp4 files. 167 and 168 went fine, problem started with 169. Nothing I'm doing in VDub is working with the aac audio. Following the same instructions as per ep 167 and 168, VDub crashes (just... dissapears. No error, no nothing) after a few seconds of work.

Wow... that sucks.
I think someone suggested setting ffdshow to decode AAC audio would work. (I haven't tried it myself)
The way you would do this is go to Start -> ffdshow -> Audio decoder configuration
under Codecs find AAC on the right and change it from "disabled" to another value. My system has "realaac" as the only other choice.
Then try it again. Hope it works...
